Job summary

Cost-U-Less, Inc. in Boca Raton, FL is seeking a Category Manager II for General Merchandise (Softline, Toys, Seasonal, Home Furnishings, Outdoor and Sport). You will define the category strategy, own the P&L, and drive assortment decisions to meet financial targets.

You will lead vendor relations, develop promo guidelines, monitor pricing strategy, and ensure optimal stock levels with the Replenishment team. Manage a Category Assistant and travel up to 30% as needed.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of General Merchandise category and customer preferences.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or related field; 4-year college.
• 5 years retail supervisory experience; prior purchasing experience preferred.
• Strong strategic thinking, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Define category strategy, tactical and financial plan; own P&L.
• Make assortment decisions to hit category targets and budget.
• Monitor performance versus objectives and manage Category Assistant.
• Negotiate with vendor partners; establish trade terms and promo guidelines.
• Ensure stock levels are right places via replenishment and pricing impact.
• Provide leadership in store performance and operations alignment.

Key Accountabilities:

• Define category strategy, tactical and financial plan of category; own P&L
• Make assortment decisions to achieve category roles and financial targets
• Continually monitor and assess performance versus budgeted objectives
• Manage Category Assistant

Lead interactions with stakeholders, monitor activity, and make final decisions:

• Establish and maintain relationships with vendor partners; negotiate trade terms
• Develop category promo guidelines; planning & monitoring
• Sign-off that articles have been created correctly
• Strategic partnerships and innovation
• Ensure right stock levels exist in the right places - with Replenishment
• Review pricing strategy and impact of pricing decisions - with Pricing
• Store performance and adherence - with Operations

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Expert knowledge of the General Merchandisecategory, including customer preferences. General Merchandiseexperience isrequired.
• Bachelors degree in business or equivalent from a 4 year college or Three year related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5 years retail experience in a supervisory role, retail management and/or previous purchasing experience preferred
• Strategic thinking, strong analytical skills, proven people skills
• Strong negotiation skills, cooperative attitude towards suppliers
• Retail, purchasing / supplier management experience

Working Conditions:

• Fast paced office environment
• Primarily computer work; able to sit or stand in one place for long periods of time
• Multiple phone calls and meetings on a daily/weekly basis
• Open area office environment
• Ability to travel 30% of the time.
