Job summary

Yale New Haven Health in Milford, Connecticut, is looking for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist who will perform diagnostic exams and operate imaging equipment to produce quality images for patient care. Candidates must have an A.R.R.T. certification and the technical skills necessary for routine radiography.

The successful candidate will provide compassionate patient care while managing examination procedures and ensuring accurate record-keeping.

An A.M.A. approved radiologic technology program graduation is required, along with Connecticut State Licensing.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an A.M.A. approved radiologic technology program and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ Certification required.
  • Six months to one year of Computed Tomography experience required.
  • RT(R) certification and CPR Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality diagnostic radiographic examinations for radiologist interpretation.
  • Operate radiographic equipment and conduct daily inspections.
  • Prepare examination room and manage record-keeping functions.

Performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties to ensure the production of quality images of all anatomical structures for interpretation by Radiologist. Is cognizant of age specific standards. Performs computer Tomographic procedures under the direction of a Radiologist using appropriate professional and technical skills to produce quality images for medical diagnosis or treatment. To meet the staffing needs of the department, as necessary, Diagnostic Radiology staff may be assigned at any of the YNHH Diagnostic Radiology locations, regardless of your regularly assigned work location.

Responsibilities
  • Performs quality and efficient diagnostic radiographic examinations to provide information for interpretation by radiologist and viewing for referring physicians. Ensures images are correctly allocated in PACS system.
  • Operates radiographic equipment to ensure proper technical results. Conducts daily inspection of radiographic equipment and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Prepares examination room ensuring cleanliness and adequate supplies to assure proper and accurate performance of exams.
  • Provides compassionate patient care to ensure patient cooperation, safety and satisfaction. Thoroughly explains procedure to ensure patient physical and emotional comfort.
  • Manages record keeping functions including scheduling and accurate completion of exams. Communicates feedback to ensure department goals are met and operations run efficiently.
  • Participates in teaching and learning opportunities to further knowledge and assist in expanding knowledge of others.
  • Operates CT scanners and related equipment necessary to produce diagnostic images safely and efficiently. Uses technical skill to operate CT equipment and software independently and efficiently without need for repeat studies due to technologist error.
  • Chaperones patients when necessary.
Qualifications

Education

Graduation from an A.M.A. approved radiologic technology program and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ Certification, and Connecticut State License. BS preferred.

Experience

A.R.R.T. certification and demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine radiography required. A.R.R.T (CT) certification preferred. Six months to one year of Computed Tomography experience required.

Licensure

RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, CT Certification, Connecticut State License, and CPR Certification required.

Special Skills

Demonstrated skills in use of Diagnostic Imaging equipment, image processing and image allocation. Must be knowledgeable of radiography exam codes and radiology information systems including scheduling, editing and completion functions. Must possess good communication, patient care and technical skills. Ability to set up and operate CT scanning equipment and utilize scan/manage/display software programs. Familiar with routine examination protocols and basic cross‑section anatomy. Willingness to learn and assist in medical dosimetry is required. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of patients served.
