Job summary

Theuniversityunion is seeking a dietary support professional in Eaton Rapids, MI to prepare patient trays and meals in accordance with diet prescriptions, cultural needs, and texture requirements. You will help manage inventory, maintain sanitation, and support daily meal service in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include coordinating production staff, teaching new staff, and ensuring meals meet safety and nutritional guidelines while adapting to census changes.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Formal education in food service, patient care or cooking preferred.
• Hospital food service experience preferred.
• Three or more years of patient or cooking experience.
• Current Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain.
• Excellent initiative and dietary skills.

Responsibilities

• Assembles culturally appropriate age specific and/or texture specific foods for patients which meet recommendations.
• Maintains the work and storage areas in a clean and sanitary condition per state and local regulations.
• Assists with Quality Improvement monitors and completes duties as required to ensure patient and staff meals are produced and served accordingly to schedule and nutritional guidelines.
• Teaches new staff principles of patient tray preparation and coordinates the activities of production staff.
• Reports to work as scheduled in clean uniform; adjust work schedule and assignments in response to patient census changes and workload.
• Assists with inventory and assists with food orders and storage, utilizes leftovers, maintains expiration dates of foods.

Description

• Assembles culturally appropriate age specific and/or texture specific foods for patients which meet recommendations.
• Maintains the work and storage areas in a clean and sanitary condition per state and local regulations.
• Assists with Quality Improvement monitors and completes duties as required to ensure patient and staff meals are produced and served accordingly to schedule and nutritional guidelines. Adheres to infection control and safe food handling policies.
• Teaches new staff principles of patient tray preparation and coordinates the activities of production staff. Reports needed repair to manager for maintenance and safety hazard needs.
• Reports to work as scheduled in clean uniform. Adjust work schedule and assignments in response to patient census changes, employee absenteeism and work volume.
• Supports hospital departmental and interdepartmental team members while meeting organizational and departmental goals.
• Assists with cleaning equipment, storing clean equipment and maintaining sanitation.
• Manages inventory and assists with food orders and storage, utilizes leftovers, maintains expiration dates of foods.

Requirements

BLS required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. High school graduate or equivalent. Formal education in food service, patient care or cooking preferred. Hospital food service experience preferred. Three or more years of patient or cooking experience. Current Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain. possesses excellent initiative and dietary skills.

Summary

Responsible for preparing, cooking, baking, and seasoning of foods. Plans food preparation daily. Maintains presentable dining room and assists customers with payment options. Responsible for assembling ready to eat foods for salad bar and grab-n-go's. Responsible for the assembly of patient trays which are based on individual cultural, social and/or age specific requirements for both content and texture. Identifies, prepares, and serves appropriate foods for patients based on diet prescriptions which are texture specific and nutritious. Assists with processing food inventory and orders. Checks in food deliveries, comparing items received with requisitions. Adheres to sanitary procedures for handling, cooking, and serving foods. Trains new team members. Adheres to state and local health department regulations, ensuring the production area is clean, food and equipment is stored properly.
