POSITION PURPOSE

Performs work to prepare, cook and serve meals, salads and a la-carte items; prepares entrees, vegetables, and other side dishes according to standardized recipes and keeps accurate documentation of food preparation. Responsible for collecting monies, accurate meal counts, and recording fees received for the purchase of meals and other food.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations required for completion of records and reports;
  • Ability to read, interpret, and administer detailed instructions and recipes in large quantities;
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be ServSafe Certified or able to become ServSafe Certified within 90 days and maintain certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in food service and/or serving as a cashier.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Performs work to prepare, cook and serve meals, salads and a la-carte items; prepares entrees, vegetables, and other side dishes according to standardized recipes and keeps accurate documentation of food preparation.
  2. Serves as a cashier in the school cafeteria to collect money; responsible for accurate records of all food leaving the serving line by accurately using a computerized point of sale system to record sales.
  3. Follows accurate procedures for the exchange and collection of monies, assists in the preparation of deposits.
  4. Participates in on the job training to understand requirements of the federally reimbursable meals, identification of meals on the serving line, and food preparation.
  5. Reads, interprets, and follows standardized recipes for food preparation in a school cafeteria.
  6. Ensures the kitchen area, equipment, and utensils are kept clean according to sanitation codes; follows a schedule for maintaining cleanliness.
  7. Performs various housekeeping duties that may include sweeping and mopping floors, wiping or washing tables and chairs, cleaning the bathroom, and cleaning the serving, receiving and dining areas.
  8. Complies with policies and procedures in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Child Nutrition Handbook.
  9. Provides effective communication and customer service to students, parents, and school system staff, as appropriate.
  10. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in an office and school cafeteria environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and cafeteria/food preparation equipment. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, and the community. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of a minimum of 40 pounds of force.
