Job description

Claremont, CA – Cashier

Position Overview

Under direct supervision, the Cashier greets all College guests, swipes student/faculty/staff IDs for payments, processes cash payments, communicates about the menu, and implements the College policies concerning take‑out meals.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure signage and menus are properly displayed before opening.
  • Maintain a neat cashiers desk and count cash in the register, verifying opening balance.
  • Greet every customer with a smile, answer menu questions, and swipe ID cards for payment using the card system.
  • Process cash payments, provide accurate change, and operate the cash register accurately.
  • Wipe down tables and chairs during and after the meal period.
  • At close of meal, count cash sales, complete reconciliation worksheet, deposit cash, and obtain manager signature.
  • Assist dining‑services workers with wiping tables, restocking cereal bins, beverages, condiments, salt & pepper shakers, and paper supplies per schedule.
  • Report unsafe conditions and assist in kitchen duties (salad/pantry and main entrée sections) as needed.
  • Sweep or mop floor to address spills.
  • Participate in training sessions and assist in training other staff members.
  • Support the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in all duties.

Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.

Licenses & Certifications

Current California Food Handler’s Card.

Schedule & Compensation

Regular part‑time (24hrsperweek), 12‑month, non‑exempt, benefits‑eligible position. Scheduled hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 11:30am‑8pm (hours may vary). Hourly rate range: $19.00–$20.50, depending on experience, education, and other factors.

  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance; wear hair restraints in accordance with California Health and Safety Code §113969.
  • Meet reasonable accommodation requirements as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull up to 50lb., stand and walk for extended periods.
