Job summary

Wegmans is seeking a friendly, customer-focused cashier to help finish customers' shopping trips with top-notch service. You’ll assist at traditional checkout and self-checkout lanes, handling transactions, bagging groceries, and guiding customers through the store.

Ideal candidates bring strong communication and teamwork, enjoy a fast-paced retail setting, and are comfortable with light physical duties such as standing and lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.

At Wegmans, our cashiers make sure customers end their shopping trips with a positive experience. In this role, you’ll provide proactive incredible customer service as you assist customers in both traditional checkout and self-checkout lanes. You'll leave a lasting impression and transform first-time shoppers into loyal Wegmans customers!

What will I do?

• Engage customers in friendly conversation while making eye contact and smiling; proactively offer additional assistance, thank customers for shopping at Wegmans
• When on register, efficiently and accurately scan items and process payments
• Properly bag items to ensure products arrive at their destination in the condition they left the store
• When in self-checkout area, manage traffic flow, direct customers to available lanes, ensure the lanes are in good working order and assist customers with system troubleshooting
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work space

Work Environment: The physical demands of this work are classified as light to medium. Work includes repetitive hand and arm movements, lifting, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, occasional bending, frequent reaching, moving and lifting, frequent to constant turning to the left, along with continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced environment. The average weight range of items lifted is 5 – 12 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 40 pounds occasionally. Upper extremity repetition is moderately high and trunk movement involves moderately high twisting, bending, and pivoting. May receive assistance with heavy items, if available. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction). The work environment is indoors. Basic tools and equipment used include cash register, scan gun, shopping bags and bagging fixtures, and shopping carts and baskets.; Collective customer service experience, internally and/or externally preferable in a food service, grocery or retail setting; Experience operating a cash register
