Job summary

Kroger Co. is recruiting for a cashier/checker at our Mount Morris store. The associate greets and assists customers, processes transactions, and ensures accuracy and policy adherence across tender types.

You will uphold safety, food safety, and loss prevention standards while maintaining a welcoming store environment. Responsibilities include staying current with ads, assisting customers, and supporting team members in a high-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
• Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk

Responsibilities

• Greeting, engaging and assisting customers at the check lane
• Process customer transactions quickly, accurately and efficiently
• Handle POS transactions and various tender types per policy
• Adhere to cash handling limits and loss-prevention procedures
• Understand and enforce restricted sale item guidelines (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs)
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator
• Follow policies for postage stamps, gift cards and coupons
• Stay current with ads and promotions
• Adhere to food safety regulations and safety guidelines
• Identify unsafe conditions and notify management
• Inspect equipment and report repairs needed
• Create a welcoming environment by answering product questions across the store
• Follow all local, state and federal laws and company guidelines
• Work cooperatively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment
• Manage conflicts calmly and professionally
• Maintain honesty and integrity with customer and business information
• Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Cashier/Checker is responsible for being visible and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers.

Cashiers process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.

Checkers understand the Point of Sale (POS) system, and handle various tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy.

Checker needs to understand and adhere to the company's limits on cash shortages and/or overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.

Cashier needs to understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs)

Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.

Follow established policies and procedures (where applicable) for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.

Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.

Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.

Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.

Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.

Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.

Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.

Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.

Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.

Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.

Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
