Job Purpose
The Cashier uses cash registers, electronic scanners, and related equipment to conduct monetary transactions with customers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet customers as they enter the location.
- Accept and process payments in the form of cash, credit or debit cards, and checks for items purchased.
- Assist customers with questions or pricing discrepancies.
- Ensure accurate transactions by balancing cash drawers at the beginning and sales at the end of shift.
- Process returns and exchanges according to policy.
- Identify and process products and services and tabulate bills with available equipment.
- Assist customers in locating products, resolving complaints, or providing information.
- Bag, box, and wrap purchased items.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and presentation skills with focus on serving customers.
- Ability to work in fast‑paced, changing environment.
- Basic mathematical skills needed to make change and give refunds.
- Ability to operate available equipment, such as cash register, calculator, and scanner.
- Ability to learn and retain knowledge about company products, services, and customer‑related policies.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Successful completion of on‑the‑job training.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk, use repetitive motion, type, and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
- May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
