Kroger in Louisville, KY is seeking a diligent Cashier/Checker to greet customers and assist shoppers. You will operate the POS, process payments, and ensure transactions are accurate and efficient in a fast-paced store.

Role requires adherence to cash handling limits, loss-prevention measures, and compliance with safety and store guidelines. Excellent customer service and teamwork are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, engage and assist shoppers in the store.
• Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently at the check lane.
• Understand the POS system and handle tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, loyalty offers, and coupons according to company policy.
• Follow cash handling guidelines and adhere to limits on shortages/overages to prevent loss.
• Comply with guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs) and report discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Follow policies for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons where applicable.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads; adhere to food safety regulations.
• Reinforce safety programs by following procedures and reporting unsafe conditions to management.
• Inspect equipment and report repairs to the appropriate department or store manager.
• Provide helpful service to customers and create an inviting atmosphere by answering questions about products.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Ability to manage conflict professionally and act with honesty and integrity.
• Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve customer and business issues.
• Support and assist through interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
• Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Job Functions:

• Cashier/Checker is responsible for being visible and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers.
• Cashiers process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
• Checkers understand the Point of Sale (POS) system, and handle various tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy.
• Checker needs to understand and adhere to the company's limits on cash shortages and/or overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.
• Cashier needs to understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs)
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Follow established policies and procedures (where applicable) for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.
• Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
• Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.
• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
