Job summary

Kroger is hiring for a cashier/checker role in Kansas. You will greet customers, process transactions at the checkout, and ensure a safe, clean shopping environment while upholding Kroger’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

The position requires strong customer service and communication skills, basic math ability, and experience with POS systems. You’ll work in a fast-paced store setting with adherence to company policies.

Responsibilities

• Greeting, engaging and assisting customers at the checkout area.
• Process customer transactions quickly, accurately and efficiently.
• Operate POS system and handle cash, checks, credit/debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, coupons and loyalty offers per policy.
• Adhere to cash handling limits and strive to prevent loss.
• Follow guidelines for restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs).
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Follow policies for stamps, gift cards and coupons.
• Stay updated with ads and promotions.
• Follow food safety regulations and safety guidelines.
• Identify unsafe conditions and report to store management; reinforce safety procedures.
• Inspect equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Create a welcoming environment and answer product questions across the store.
• Adhere to laws and company guidelines; work cooperatively in high-paced environments.
• Manage conflicts calmly and professionally; act with honesty and integrity.
• Follow directions and seek help to resolve issues.
• Provide support to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

• Cashier/Checker is responsible for being visible and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers.


• Cashiers process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.


• Checkers understand the Point of Sale (POS) system, and handle various tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy.


• Checker needs to understand and adhere to the company's limits on cash shortages and/or overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.


• Cashier needs to understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs)


• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.


• Follow established policies and procedures (where applicable) for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.


• Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.


• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.


• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.


• Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.


• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.


• Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.


• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.


• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
