The position offers advancement through Caseworker I–IV levels with documented wage ranges and opportunities to support clients across BBNA’s VR

  • Applying federal/state regulations and BBNA policies in daily activities.
  • Becoming familiar with operational guidelines for divisions.
  • Working with the team to ensure consumers access services easily.
  • Communicating with diplomacy, tact, and respect to clients and colleagues.
  • Responding to stressful situations professionally and using de-escalation techniques.

Job description

POSITION TITLE: Caseworker; Vocational Rehabilitation

OBJECTIVE: Provide Vocational Rehabilitation services to eligible Native Americans which are consistent with their individual strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and informed choices, so that they may prepare for or engage in gainful employment, including self-employment, telecommuting, or business ownership.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Required at all levels)

License / Certification: Current valid Alaska Driver’s License and liability insurance

Clearance: Background clearance check including fingerprints

Computer skills. Keyboard, MS programs, e-mail/internet. Ability to learn data entry program for case management.

Important attributes. Familiarity with Bristol Bay area, people, and cultures with an understanding of the social and cultural needs of the Native community and especially those experiencing disabilities.

Travel: Willing and able to do extensive travel to rural communities including flights in light aircraft.

Demonstrated ability to achieve the Essential Job Results as described below.

CASEWORKER I High School Graduate; Entry-level work; Little or no casework experience. Requires full supervision. Ability to carry a case load of; 1-15

CASEWORKER II AA Degree or 2 years progressive experience with casework. Assigned a low number of cases, supervised closely while training on the job. Ability to carry a case load of cases of; 15-30

CASEWORKER III AA or specialized certificate or training and at least a year of casework experience or achieved 3 years of progressive casework experience. Ability to carry a case load of cases of; 30-60

CASEWORKER IV BA or 4 years progressive experience in the field and leadership experience. May be assigned mentoring of local and telecommute eligibility caseworkers, while maintaining a full case load of 30-60 cases that consists of complex cases

Complete achievement of certain of the above specifications may not be required if, in the opinion of BBNA a particular candidate possesses significant offsetting characteristics, such as past accomplishments, experience, education, or estimate of future potential.

Achieve program goals and objectives

by

  1. Understanding and becoming proficient with applicable laws, i.e., the Americans With Disabilities Act and Vocational Rehabilitation Act., regulations and policies.
  2. Applying federal and/or state regulations and BBNA policies in daily program activities
  3. Becoming familiar with the basic operational guidelines for each of the above divisions.
  4. Working with the team to ensure that consumers can easily access services.
  5. Communicating with diplomacy, tact, and respect to clients and colleagues.
  6. Responding to stressful situations in a professional manner. Using de-escalation techniques when assisting clients who may be frustrated, angry, or fearful. Following safety protocols if a situation appears to be escalating.

by

  1. Agreeing to BBNA’s policy on confidentiality, keeping confidential information gained through employment secure, during and after this employment.
  2. Ensuring privileged information is shared in a manner that improves service delivery, while respecting consumers’ right to privacy and complying with confidentiality policies.
  3. Delivering services in a manner that is respectful of culture, ethical, and professional.
Keeps Management Informed

by

  1. Informing and consulting frequently with the VR Program Manager regarding program activities, issues and concerns to seek guidance and direction as appropriate.
  2. Ensuring that client files have all the necessary documentation and are in the proper order so accurate information can be retrieved quickly and reliably.
  3. Maintaining consumer statistics and submitting monthly, quarterly, and year-end activity reports.
  4. Participating in scheduled Workforce Department team meetings.
  5. Participating in BI-weekly case staffing.
Travel in and out of region

by

  1. Traveling for face-to-face meetings or training as required to provide services, participate in training or workshops and to exchange current information significant to regional, Tribal, State and Federal entities.
  2. Fully participating in a manner of professional conduct while in travel status.
3. Ensuring that any travel is well-planned and scheduled according to BBNA policy.

Monitors and improves program and service quality

by

  1. Participating in training and professional development activities as scheduled.
  2. Understanding VR’s Mission, Goals and Objectives and helping to evaluate whether outcomes are being met.
  3. Participating on project planning teams and sharing ways to improve overall effectiveness of program.
