Job description

Job Title: Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist II

The Family Independence Administration provides temporary assistance to individuals and families with social service and economic needs, aiming to promote self-sufficiency through various programs/services such as: temporary cash assistance, SNAP, childcare, eviction prevention, adult protective services, job training, employment plans, domestic violence assistance, child support enforcement, etc.

Under the supervision of the Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist III, the ABOS II is responsible for supervising teams of BOS staff involved in eligibility determination, financial planning, economic support, and related services to assist persons in need. The role involves supervisory, program development, analytical, and research skills to meet FIA/Benefits Access Center goals.

The FIA is recruiting for one (1) Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist II, to serve as a Case Management Team Leader, with responsibilities including:

  1. Monitoring workflow of BOS workers handling applications, case reopenings, and one-shot deals.
  2. Reviewing cases and authorizing benefits as needed.
  3. Ensuring report accuracy and timeliness.
  4. Acting as liaison to the Rental Assistance Unit.
  5. Conducting daily reviews to ensure timely service.
  6. Managing teams that interview applicants, assess eligibility for various assistance programs, and work to remove employment barriers.
  7. Overseeing case management activities, including eligibility, assessments, employment plans, and strategies for self-sufficiency.
  8. Monitoring performance reports, audits, and client feedback to maintain team performance.
  9. Providing case consultation and guidance on difficult cases.
  10. Supervising clerical and BOS staff providing walk-in and telephone services, managing case updates, and coordinating with other teams.
  11. Overseeing staff assessing housing needs and developing intervention plans for at-risk tenants.
  12. Monitoring activities and preparing reports on unit performance.
  13. Performing final case packet reviews prior to fair hearings and representing the agency effectively.
  14. Preparing reports on key outcomes and implementing corrective actions.
  15. Conducting field visits as needed.

Hours/Shift: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with flexible schedules.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus three years of experience in social/human services or related fields, providing client services or employment counseling.
  • Baccalaureate degree plus 18 months of full-time experience as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist or related social/human services work.
  • College credits may substitute for part of the experience, with specific credit-hour conversions.
