Case Culinary Platform Attendant / Culinary Platform Attendant

Position Overview

The Culinary Platform Attendant will organize, prepare, and supply various food items for salad bars, cold and hot food stations, and to-order services in one of the Residential Dining Halls. Responsibilities include assisting cooks, combining ingredients, portioning, serving, and maintaining proper food handling and storage techniques to prevent waste and spoilage. The role involves working with a diverse workforce and directly engaging with customers. Position location: Case Hall.

All RHS positions are critical. In case of university closure due to weather or emergencies, employees are expected to report to work as scheduled or work remotely if approved, to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent experience.
• At least one year of full-time experience in food preparation and kitchen equipment use.
• Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
• Ability to read weights and measures and accurately measure ingredients.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, including fractions.
• Knowledge of various cooking methods such as sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, and steaming.
• Proficiency in using knives and standard kitchen equipment safely.
• Skill in preparing food items with proper methods and timing to ensure continuous service of freshly cooked products.
• Ability to lift between 26 to 75 pounds occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to anticipate service needs and customer demands, with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.

Additional Information

Employment is full-time, with work hours Monday-Thursday 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., with alternating weekends off. Location: Case Hall.

Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds.
