Job summary

Volusia County Schools seeks a skilled Mechanic II - Carpentry to maintain and renovate school facilities. The role requires extensive carpentry, cabinetry and millwork expertise, plus the ability to read blueprints and work with school site teams.

You will manage multiple projects, supervise setup of portable classrooms, and ensure safety. Requires after-hours availability and a Florida driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 7+ years in carpentry or cabinetry trades.
• Trade school cert with 5 years field experience or NARI/Journeyman license.
• Experience with commercial, institutional remodeling preferred.
• Must be available after hours as part of emergency/disaster team.
• Must have own hand tools per department list and Florida license.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency carpentry and related trades across sites.
• Prepare time/material estimates for job scope and scheduling.
• Operate and repair cabinets, millwork, doors, and hardware.
• Move and set up portable classrooms and equipment as needed.
• Maintain site safety, quality, and compliance with policies.
• Submit permits and complete work orders/timecards accurately.
• Communicate job details to team and supervisors via email.
• Supervise or assist on renovation and remodel projects as assigned.
