Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher - Correction Education for the State Correctional Institution Phoenix. This full-time role teaches carpentry skills to inmate students in a structured, safety‑conscious setting, guiding hands‑on learning and real-world applications.

Work 7:45 AM–3:45 PM, Monday–Friday; no telework. Starting salary $72,215 per year, with retirement benefits and standard state employee benefits.

Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent with 2+ years wage experience beyond apprenticeship.
If no apprenticeship, 3 years wage earning experience in Carpentry.
Possession or eligibility for Vocational Certificate I/II in Carpentry, or Vocational Intern Certificate, or Emergency Certificate.
Background check and CJIS compliance required.

Responsibilities

Teach carpentry and construction topics through classroom and shop-based lessons.
Modify lesson materials based on student needs and placement results (Curriculum adaptation).
Develop tests, review assignments, and provide evaluations of student progress.
Maintain education records, attendance, inventory, and supply requests.
Issue tools, monitor behavior, and follow procedures to maintain a secure learning space.
This position focuses on teaching carpentry-related skills and guiding inmate students through hands-on learning.
