Job summary

Turner Industries Energy Services in Whiting, IN is seeking skilled carpenters for maintenance work. The role encompasses constructing, erecting, installing, fabricating, dismantling and repairing wood and metal structures, formwork and fixtures according to drawings and plans.

This is a non-exempt, hourly, full-time position reporting to the foreman. Required are a high school diploma or equivalent, 1–4 years of experience, basic tool knowledge, and possibly NCCER certification; post-offer drug

• Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools is expected.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints/structural plans to determine material requirements.
• Erect, install, fabricate, dismantle and repair wood/metal structures and formwork.
• Load, transport and assemble formwork and accessories per drawings/plans.
• Follow safety requirements and supervisor instructions.

We are seeking carpenters for maintenancework in the Whiting, IN area. The Carpenter position constructs, erects, installs, fabricates, dismantles and repairs structures, formwork and fixtures of wood, metal forms and associated accessories. Non-exempt role; Reports to the Foreman; Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently.

Essential Qualifications:

• High school or equivalent
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools
• NCCER certification may be required at some job sites
• Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the company Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
• Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Functional Requirements:

Studies blueprints, sketches or structural plans for information pertaining to the type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated; selects specific types of lumber or other materials; prepares layouts including lines and grades; marks cutting and assembly lines on materials; shapes materials to prescribed measurements; assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together; erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring; builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work; covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors; fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finishes hardware such as locks, letter drops and kick plates; constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete; erects temporary platforms, steps, and ladders for assembling structures below ground, at ground level or above ground level; fabricates formwork then loads, hauls, and carries it to the job site and installs per drawings, sketches, or plans; places and finishes concrete in formwork and sets and aligns form panels; sets grout forms for epoxy and cement grout; perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement:

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; pushing; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; typing / data entry; stepstool use; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment; carrying items while climbing; entering confined spaces
