Job description

Hickory Construction, Inc
Carpenter - High-End Residential Construction
Location: Knoxville, TN (In-Office, Full-Time Field Role)
Join a legacy of craftsmanship.

Founded in 1977, Hickory Construction has delivered award-winning, luxury custom homes and bespoke commercial spaces across East Tennessee. Guided by founder Burke Pinnell (Chairman) and President Ben Pinnell, we hold a simple, unwavering standard: the highest level of quality and service, from the smallest renovation to the largest estate build. Our team includes long-tenured master craftspeople and field leaders who sweat the details others miss. If you care about precision, accountability, and client experience, you'll feel at home here.

We are looking for a skilled Carpenter with strong framing and finish carpentry experience to join our field team. This role requires craftsmanship, reliability, and a commitment to building with care. While not a management position, the Carpenter plays a key part in enforcing onsite safety, quality control, and collaborative teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be a full-time, daily presence on the jobsite, available to support the project team
  • Communicate clearly with Project Managers and Supervisors to maintain schedule alignment
  • Uphold Hickory's Safety Policy at all times and ensure safe conditions for employees, subcontractors, and visitors
  • Work collaboratively with the full project team to prevent rework and support seamless project execution
  • Provide timely feedback on schedule issues, field conditions, and material demands
  • Maintain accurate inventory of materials and coordinate procurement needs
  • Track and document purchases, receipts, and jobsite records accurately
  • Problem-solve proactively to resolve field conflicts without delays or quality loss
  • Maintain jobsite documentation, drawings, and specifications in an organized format
  • Perform carpentry tasks from foundations to detailed finish trim, both interior and exterior, with an exceptional standard of craftsmanship
  • Assist in preparing mockups, samples, or layout work as requested
  • Provide accurate layout for carpenters and subcontractors to 1/16" tolerances, maintaining plumb and square conditions
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of carpentry experience in residential or commercial construction
  • Strong knowledge of framing, trim, and building assembly techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints
  • Experience working with varied material types, including wood, composite, and metal
  • Ability to install multi-piece trim assemblies, custom millwork, doors, and specialty hardware
  • Ability to hold tolerances up to 1/16" and identify deviations to 1/64"
  • Effective verbal communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must own and maintain a professional set of carpentry tools
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Comfortable working on roofs, ladders, and elevated platforms with proper PPE
  • Able to work in crawlspaces, attics, and tight or unfinished conditions
  • Able to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions
  • Natural or corrected vision of 20/40 or better
What We Offer
  • Job Type: Full-time (W-2)
  • We offer a competitive compensation package aligned with industry standards.
  • Steady, year-round work with a respected, stable company
  • Opportunities to learn advanced techniques and grow into a Lead Carpenter role
