Salary Range: $27.00 To $29.00 Hourly

This position supports Carpenters in the efforts to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. The Carpenter Helper works under the direction of the Carpenter on site, and reports to the Project Manager. This position works in compliance with Neil Kelly Company established standards for paperwork and processes, and customer, subcontractor and vendor relationships.

Essential functions:
  • Carpentry labor including material hauling and debris hauling, including driving the company truck, no CDL required.
  • Job site protection, including protecting property from undue dust and debris.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Maintain security of client property, including job site lock-up.
  • Daily and ongoing removal of hazards from job sites.
  • Proper completion of timesheets, purchase orders, reimbursement requests, and mileage logs.
  • Regularly lifting up to 50 pounds, unassisted.
  • Use of hand-held and power tools, and proper maintenance of tools.
  • Driving to job sites and picking up supplies and materials from vendors/retailers and delivery to job sites; This position is required to provide their own vehicle, with proof of insurance, and a valid driver’s license with a good Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Support Neil Kelly’s marketing initiatives by capturing project photos, videos, and insights from the field and collaborating with the Marketing team to showcase craftsmanship, job progress, and client experience.

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and remodeling of houses
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of blueprints, specifications, and site plans
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

  • First Aid/CPR/AED: All Neil Kelly craft works are expected to maintain a current First Aid/CPR/AED card. Classes are available through Neil Kelly Company.
Under the direction and supervision of the Carpenters and/or Project Manager:
  • Check all project materials for quality and accuracy as it arrives at the job site.
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Accurate measurement and cutting of materials.
  • Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level.
  • Select and order lumber or other required materials.
  • Build, install, or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools.

Physical demands:

The Carpenter Helper is expected to be able to perform physical exertion typically found on construction sites. This physical exertion will include but will not be limited to: carrying, lifting, climbing, crawling, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, and hauling. The employee must be able to work on uneven surfaces; concrete, dirt, finished floors, etc. They will be expected to lift, on a regular basis, up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift over 50 lbs with assistance. Job site situations vary greatly.

Position type and expected hours of work:

This position has a Monday through Friday, 40-hour workweek. General work hours are, 8:00am -5:00pm unless another schedule is established. Work hours will be an 8-hour workday with either a 30-minute or a 60-minute unpaid lunch break and two 15- minute paid breaks (morning and afternoon). There may be occasional evening, weekend, and/or overtime work.

Travel:

This position requires regular and frequent travel to job sites, to retailers/vendors, and to the office. Employees in this position are required to provide their own vehicle to use for work-related purposes, and are eligible for mileage reimbursement, according to company policy. This position requires an acceptable driving record, valid driver’s license and current auto insurance.

Required education and experience:

There are no specific educational requirements or certifications. High School Diploma, or GED certificate preferred.
