Job summary

Optimized Process Designs (OPD), part of Koch Engineered Solutions, seeks a Carpenter Helper for field work at Carthage, TX. You will assist carpenters with layout, materials selection, and blueprint interpretation while traveling to remote sites and following strict safety protocols.

Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather, on ladders/scaffolding, and for long shifts is required. This role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and producing quality structural work on demanding projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist carpenters with preparing the layout of the project.
• Learn to estimate height, width, length, and other proportions.
• Help select materials.
• Understand blueprints or follow supervisor instructions.
• Use hand and power tools to repair and erect structures.
• Work on ladders and scaffolding.
• Ensure level and secure structures using surveying tools.
• Contribute to pouring concrete as needed.
• Observe and comply with safety and project rules.
• Maintain high production with quality output.
• Perform other duties as required.

The jobsite located in Carthage, TX has an opening for a Carpenter Helper.

What You Will Do

Some core responsibilities for a Carpenter Helper include:

• Assist carpenters with preparing the layout of the project.
• Learn to estimate height, width, length, and other proportions.
• Help select materials.
• Aptitude to understand blueprints or follow instructions from supervisors.
• Utilize hammers, pry-bars, chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
• Work on ladders, and scaffolding.
• Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
• Able to create structures for pouring concrete.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
• Aim to achieve high production, with good quality output.
• Perform other duties as required.

Some physical demands of being a Carpenter Helper include:

• Capable of working in outdoor weather and environmental conditions including extreme heat and humidity, extreme cold, and high elevations.
• Lifting and carrying awkward objects up to 60 lbs
• Standing for extended periods of time up to 12 hours per day.
• Moving the entire body. Considerable use of arms, legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crawling, twisting, reaching, and bending on a regular basis.
• Must have good hand-eye coordination
• Use hands to handle, control, and feel objects and/or tools.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Basic knowledge of civil construction.
• Minimum of 6 months experience as a craftsman helper.
• Travel is a must with extended periods away from home in remote areas at times.
• Must be willing and able to work outside in extreme heat, humidity, and cold conditions.
• Must be willing and able to attend mandatory safety meetings.
• Must be willing and able and willing to work in a team environment.
• Must be willing and able to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week.
• Must be able to meet basic physical requirements.
