Guardian Firestop Solutions is hiring a Firestopping Technician focused on specialized firestop systems in commercial construction. The role blends carpentry with firestop expertise, training provided for UL systems.

You’ll work on site in Nashville and travel to projects nationwide, ensuring safety and quality in high-stakes environments. Ideal candidates have 1+ years in carpentry/construction, strong blueprint interpretation, and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• 1+ years carpentry, construction, or related trades experience.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States (Mon-Fri, home on weekends).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Install firestop systems per project specs and UL systems.
• Interpret blueprints and technical specs for firestop installations.
• Identify and select firestop materials for substrates and penetrants.
• Prepare surfaces and ensure proper adhesion of products.
• Document installations for inspection and QA.
• Complete general carpentry tasks as assigned by project managers.

We are seeking an experienced Carpenter or construction professional to join our Guardian Firestop Solutions team as a Firestopping Technician. This is primarily a firestopping position, with limited carpentry and general construction work. If you have a background in carpentry, framing, remodeling, drywall, or a related trade, we'll train you to install specialized firestop systems in commercial construction environments.

Responsibilities Include

• Install firestop systems (penetration firestopping, joint firestopping, curtain wall systems, etc.) to meet project specifications and UL systems.
• Interpret blueprints, construction documents, and technical specifications related to carpentry and firestop installations.
• Identify and select appropriate firestop materials for different substrates and penetrants (e.g., pipes, conduits, ducts, cables).
• Prepare and clean surfaces for application and ensure proper adhesion of firestop products.
• Document installations, including system types, materials used, and locations, for inspection and quality assurance purposes.

Carpentry & General Construction

• Complete general punch-list, remodel, and maintenance carpentry tasks as assigned by project managers or site supervisors.
• Assist with general job site setup, material staging, and cleanup.

Safety & Site Conduct

• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes, building codes, and safety regulations.
• Work closely with project managers, inspectors, and other trades to ensure quality installations.
• Use carpentry and firestop tools and equipment safely, including saws, drills, nail guns, caulking guns, and hand tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper handling of materials and tools.
• Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all company safety protocols.
• Work in all weather conditions.
• Perform tasks at heights such as attics, ladders, scaffolding, and commercial ceilings.
• Enter tight or confined spaces, such as crawl spaces and mechanical rooms.

Qualifications

Required

• 1+ years of carpentry, construction, or related trades experience (framing, drywall installers, construction technicians, insulation installers, remodeling, or similar).
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the United States (Monday–Friday, home on weekends).
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and comfort using hand and power tools.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen in accordance with customer requirements.

• Prior firestop installation experience or familiarity with UL firestop systems and fire-resistance-rated construction (not required — training provided).
• Experience working in schools, hospitals, data centers, or other government facilities with critical environments.
• Familiarity with Hilti, STI, 3M, or other major firestop system manufacturers.
