Job description

Position Overview

Carpenter – responsible for skilled carpentry work on site in Houston, TX and surrounding areas for construction, repair, and maintenance of structures and facilities. Reporting to supervisors under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute rough skilled carpentry work according to blueprints, as‑built drawings, and specifications.
  • Inspect completed work for compliance with specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Perform estimating and bid procurement activities—including reviewing plans, preparing bid packages, and managing cost data using HCSS HeavyBid.
  • Coordinate with senior managers, marketing, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure timely, cost‑effective project execution.
  • Maintain bid history, track potential work opportunities, and prepare solicitation documents.
  • Support project continuity from estimate through budget handoff, evaluating specialty contractor bids, and monitoring cost trends.
  • Maintain professionalism, safety, and strong client relationships; perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficiency with structural bridge elements and concrete formwork systems.
  • Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Comfortable operating electrical and manual equipment, measurement tools.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills; effective group problem‑solving.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Capacity to work productively under pressure and adapt to change.
  • Self‑motivation and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely; valid driver’s license and compliance with company driving policy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years master‑level experience as a carpenter in heavy highway/structural, commercial, industrial, or military construction operations.
  • Successful completion of drug, driving (if applicable), and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to provide own basic carpentry/structural hand tools.
  • Experience on federal government projects.
  • Valid state driver’s license; qualified to operate a vehicle in accordance with the Company’s Driving Policy.
Working Environment

The role requires a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking office environment with occasional field work at indoor and outdoor job sites. Employees may need to adapt to schedule and design changes; overtime for urgent field support or bid processing is possible.
