Job summary

Carollo Engineers, a leading water-focused engineering firm in Phoenix, seeks an experienced Principal Engineer to lead large-scale water/wastewater projects. You will manage design and construction phases, ensure budget and schedule adherence, and mentor staff across teams.

Ideal candidates hold a PE license, 20+ years of relevant experience, and excel in client communications and project leadership in water infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering required.
  • 20+ years of professional experience required (exclusive of advanced degrees).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is required.
  • Experience with water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, collection systems, distribution projects, and pump stations.
  • Ability to deliver high quality services within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Experience in design and construction phases of water/wastewater projects with full responsibility for budget and schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and conducts engineering work on projects for multiple Phoenix clients of medium to large size.
  • Responsible for budget, schedule, contractual obligations and quality standards.
  • Directs several supervisory staff.
  • Initiates and maintains contacts with engineers and officials of other organizations.
  • Interprets, organizes, and coordinates assignments.
  • Develops standards and guides for engineering activities.
  • Interacts with clients to maintain relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts engineering work on projects, for multiple Phoenix clients, of medium to large sizes of moderately complex nature
  • Responsible for budget, schedule, contractual obligations and quality standards
  • Directs several subordinate supervisors or team leaders
  • Responsible for training and monitoring internal staff
  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies
  • Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments
  • Plans and develops projects concerned with unique or controversial problems that have an important effect on major organization programs
  • Develop standards and guides for diverse engineering activities
  • Determine program objectives and requirements and organize programs and projects
  • Involved in exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches
  • Responsible for acting independently and making authoritative decisions on technical matters
  • Involved on team that prepares proposals, conducts interviews and negotiates contracts with clients after selection
  • Develops significant relationships with new and existing clients and has responsibility for client maintenance
  • Supports firm's relationships with client management personnel
  • Responsible for identifying and directs sub consultants performing services on projects
  • Active in professional associations, including presentation of technical papers, member of technical committee, officer of local or national organization
  • Minimal travel is required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering
  • 20+ years of professional experience (exclusive of any advanced degree)
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience includes water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater collection systems, water transmission/distribution projects, pipeline rehabilitation projects, and pump stations
  • Ability to deliver high quality services within budget and schedule constraints
  • Experience in the design and construction phase of small, medium, and large sized water and/or wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contractual obligations and quality standards
  • Ability to evaluate progress of staff and results obtained, and recommends major changes to achieve overall objectives
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple clients and project teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering
Compensation Range

An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
