Job summary

Final Mile in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Cargo Handler to load and unload freight, safely operate equipment, and accurately stage next-day routes. You will use handheld scanners to track shipments across our network and ensure documentation and freight quality meet standards.

The role requires lifting and manual tasks, with a shift from 3:30am to 12:00pm, and a pay rate of $16.41 per hour. Benefits and career development opportunities are provided by the employer.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trucks and trailers.
• Safely move freight using approved equipment.
• Use handheld scanners to track freight across the network.
• Accurately stage and audit next-day routes.
• Label boxes and prepare freight for shipment as required.
• Verify documentation and condition of freight to meet quality standards.
• Check in and unload freight.
• Recoup/restore damaged freight when necessary.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Cargo Handler is responsible for loading and unloading freight on trailers in a safe and timely manner. Frequent lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying of freight is required. Must accurately stage and audit next day routes, perform other warehouse duties as assigned.

Primary Duties

• Responsible for loading and unloading freight on trucks and trailers
• Safely load and unload trailers and trucks by utilizing appropriate approved equipment
• Use handheld scanners to efficiently track freight throughout our network
• Accurately stage and audit next day routes
• Correctly label boxes and prepare freight for shipment as required
• Verify documentation and condition of freight to assure quality standards are met
• Accurately check-in and unload freight
• Recoup/restore damaged freight when necessary
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Ensure warehouse duties are being done as directed (cardboard, styrofoam, demanufacture etc)
• Ability to work well without direct supervision, maintain a positive, professional demeanor
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
