Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to support the Operations Services Department. You will maintain cleanliness, upkeep and security of the school facility and supervise assigned staff, reporting to the Building Management Supervisor.

This role requires proactive, professional service to ensure a safe, sanitary, and attractive learning environment. Applicants should have a High School Diploma, custodial experience, ability to lift 50 lbs, and proficiency with

• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook).
• Experience with routine and preventative maintenance.
• Willing to work day, evening and night shifts.
• Knowledge of SAP is an asset.

Job description

The Caretaker contributes to the effective operation of the Operations Services Department within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and implements the principles of good energy management stewardship. The caretaker will effectively maintain and supervise the daily operations of the Operations Services Department for the designated facility. The position is responsible for the overall cleanliness, maintenance and security of the school facility/building and for supervising assigned staff. Duties will be performed in a professional, proactive and quality manner to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary and attractive appearance of the building(s) for its users. This position reports to the Building Management Supervisor.

The Caretaker position falls under the NSUPE collective agreement. The collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma;
• Minimum two years HRCE custodial experience or three years alternate janitorial experience or a combination of both for three years;
• Ability to lift 50lbs to perform a full range of cleaning and janitorial duties;
• Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook);
• Experience completing routine and preventative maintenance;
• Able to work all shift schedules including day, evening and nights;
• Knowledge of SAP considered an asset.
