Job summary

GOODWILL CENTRAL COAST is seeking an instructor to provide classroom-style training in soft skills, job readiness, and digital literacy to help participants advance toward competitive employment. You will deliver group and one-on-one instruction on digital skills like MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google tools, and lead workshops on career planning and résumés.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business technology, or related field preferred.
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license required.
  • Two years of instructional experience required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Proficient in Windows OS, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Drive, SharePoint, and web browsing.

Job description

Job Summary

Provide classroom‑style instruction in soft skills, job readiness, job retention, and digital literacy to support career advancement and help participants obtain and retain competitive employment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver instruction in group and individual settings on digital literacy, covering computer basics, internet fundamentals, and common application software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Drive, and SharePoint.
  • Facilitate workshops on employment topics: career exploration, planning, networking, social media, job‑search strategies, resume writing, interviewing, goal setting, and life‑skills such as problem solving, confidence building, customer service, and coping with life stressors.
  • Maintain an ongoing assessment of individual participant progress and encourage continued courses as needed.
  • Support the development and improvement of Goodwill’s digital literacy and job‑readiness curricula.
  • Maintain inventory of information and technology equipment; ensure hardware and infrastructure are properly set up and operating before training sessions.
  • Coordinate with Employment Specialists, Program Manager, and other Goodwill staff to assist participants and community members.
  • Coordinate transportation for participants to designated training locations in a safe and lawful manner.
  • Promote course offerings at new‑participant orientations and at internal/community meetings.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties including updating reports, completing timesheets, expense reports, and scheduling training with clients.
  • Oversee Northstar Certification testing processes, serving as the primary point of contact for test scheduling and proctoring.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation and track services provided to program participants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet department goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business technology, or a closely related discipline (preferred).
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license (required).
  • Two years of instructional experience (required).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skill in operating a computer and navigating Windows OS, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Drive, SharePoint, and web browsing.
  • Understanding of barriers to employment faced by participants.
  • Familiarity with Goodwill’s mission, general policies, and procedures (on‑the‑job training).
  • Ability to identify participants’ educational needs, develop training programs, and teach others.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic computer issues, keep up‑to‑date with technology, and adapt schedules as needed.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Spanish, both written and oral.
  • Responsibility for safe driving and maintaining a good driving record; ability to provide vehicle liability insurance evidence.
Job Setting

Work is performed in an enclosed, climate‑controlled office building and may involve visits to other employer/industry sites. Duties are performed independently, one‑on‑one with clients, in group settings, and in collaboration with other staff and referring agents.

Physical Demands

The position is primarily sedentary with walking and standing as necessary. Normal lifting and carrying up to approximately 25 lbs. is required; heavier items are moved with proper material handling equipment or assistance. Normal hearing, vision, and speech abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
