Job summary

LOGAN Community Resources, Inc. in Michiana is seeking a Career Coach to work in schools with students ages 14-22 who have IEPs and may be eligible for VR services.

You will provide services related to workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and counseling on postsecondary education opportunities. Responsibilities include coordinating job shadowing, tours, mock interviews, resume development, and collaboration with school staff and VR professionals to ensure seamless transition planning for students

Qualifications

  • Provide opportunities for career exploration through job shadowing, business tours, work experiences, mock interviewing, resume development.
  • Provide instruction on self-advocacy which may include peer mentoring.
  • Attend IEP meetings.
  • Work with school personnel in order to discuss student progress and other potential students who may need services.
  • Development and implementation of curriculum to groups of students with a focus on job exploration counseling, counseling on opportunities for enrollment in postsecondary programs, workplace readiness training, and instruction in self-advocacy.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with participants, families, school personnel, area businesses, and supervisor.
  • Completes and maintains all related documentation in accordance with the agency standard including; intake paperwork, IEP, Accel Documentation and all other forms required by the state.
  • Work cooperatively with VR in order to assist in completing referrals to ensure continuation of services upon graduation/completion.

The Career Coach works in the schools with students ages 14-22 with IEP’s who are eligible for or potentially eligible for VR Services. The Career Coach provides services as it relates to workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and counseling on opportunities for post-secondary education.

  • Expected to serve as an advocate and to protect the human rights of persons served at all times.
  • Ensure that all communication takes place in a professional manner, reflecting both respect for persons served and the LOGAN image.
  • Seek professional growth by keeping current on new philosophy, research, technology, strategies, etc. Keep informed of industry trends and best practices including participation in the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (INARF) professional interest sessions.
  • Achieve and adhere to CARF accreditation standards.
  • Develop and monitor the department budget working toward financial targets. Ensure proper documentation of services and submittal of all billing information on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Education
  • Baccalaureate degree in Social Services, Education or related area is preferred.
Experience
  • Two years of experience in social service environment. Experience in job analysis and work site training, as well as an understanding of supported employment, social role valorization preferred.
Job Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must provide own transportation, have valid driver’s license and driving record must meet insurability requirements.
  • Must maintain and provide documentation of auto insurance at limits set by agency.
  • Must provide record of vehicle registration.
  • Must have ability to lift/move individuals or materials weighing up to 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification, and must stay current on all other training as defined by state, accreditation body or organization guidelines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills necessary to build relationships with community organizations, clients, funding source staff and LOGAN staff.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and consistently communicate policies and procedures.
  • Must have and/or develop working knowledge and proficiency in Person Centered Planning, Social Role Valorization and Positive Behavior Supports.
  • Oral/written communication skills to clearly and effectively express ideas.
  • Ability to plan and organize work activities/processes, use discretion and sound judgment and demonstrate initiative to ensure goals are achieved in a timely manner.
