Mercy Health Lorain Hospital is seeking a Care Companion to assist patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You will help with basic care, clean rooms, monitor vital signs and support feeding and grooming as part of a compassionate, patient‑focused team.

The role emphasizes patient comfort, safe environment, and clear communication with nurses. BLS certification is preferred; healthcare experience is a plus.

Formación

• Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred upon hire, must obtain before direct patient care
• Recent experience in a healthcare environment is preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required

Responsabilidades

• Provides care and comfort to patients, personal care and hygiene, toileting, and mobility
• Creates a safe environment for patients and reports changes or concerns to the nurse
• Delivers high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff
• Participates in hand-offs with pertinent information at arrival and departure
• Supports sanitation and cleaning of patients' rooms and monitors health and vital signs

Care Companion – Mercy Lorain Hospital

Job Summary:

A Care Companion provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. As part of our team, the Care Companion is responsible for sanitizing and cleaning patients’ rooms, monitoring patients’ health and vital signs as well as assisting patients with basic needs like feeding and grooming.

Essential Functions:

• Providessupport to the patient including, but not limited to, care and comfort,personal care and hygiene, toileting, and mobility.
• Creates a safe environment for patients.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Provides high-level customer service to all patients, patient’s family, visitors and all employees.
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.

Education:

• None

Licensure/Certification:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain from the approved source prior to direct patient care)

Experience:

• Recent experience in a healthcare environment (preferred, not required)

Skills & Abilities:

• Possesses problem-solving skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
• Ability to be proactive in a rapidly changing environment
