Job summary

Miami Children's Hospital is seeking a Care Assistant to join the Nursing Float Pool for the night shift. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and help with feeding and hygiene while supporting an outstanding standard of care.

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will help maintain a clean, organized environment and collaborate with the care team to deliver compassionate, family-centered services to patients and families.

Qualifications

• Active Florida CNA license or EMT/Paramedic licensure.
• BLS certification active and in good standing.
• Healthcare environment experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, nutrition, and hygiene.
• Record vitals, heights, weights and measurements in the Electronic Health Record.
• Inform RN of changes in patient condition or behavior.
• Recognize priorities and re-prioritize care with RN guidance.
• Restock supplies and assist with room turnover and preparation.
• Identify patient needs and provide necessary supplies.
• Promote cost containment and opportunities for improvement.
• Keep patient rooms and nursing station clean and maintained.
• Provide encouragement and comfort to patients and families.
• Assist with transporting patients for procedures.
• Participate in other tasks to support efficient care delivery.
• Greet and welcome patients, families and visitors; relay information about services.

Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, safe patient environment and assists with patient care activities such as taking vital signs, feeding, bathing and daily living activities. Collaborates with the healthcare team and provides compassionate and empathic family-centered care for the patients and families. Works under the supervision of a RN and in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures.

Job Specific Duties

• Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers. F: Daily/ T: 10-30 minutes R: Shared
• Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures. F: Daily/ T: 5-15 minutes per patient R: Individual
• Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communications all significant changes in patient condition or behavior. F: Daily/ T: 5-10 minutes R: Individual
• Recognizes accepted priorities for care needs and takes direction for re-prioritizing from the RN. F: Daily/ T: ongoing R: Individual
• Restock supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, assists with room preparation and turnover. F: Daily/ T: 5-30 minutes per room R: Individual

Qualifications

• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT/Paramedic - active licensure in the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
• American Heart Association BLS maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High school education or equivalent preferred.
• Strong problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborates in a team environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
• Ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and follow the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Nursing Leader.
• Ability to apply principles of evidenced-based practice, analytical thinking and service excellence in practice.
• CPI (Crisis Intervention Training) preferred.
