Job summary

Christiana Care Health System is seeking a Cardiac Cath Lab professional to prepare patients for invasive procedures and assist physicians during catheterization, PTCA, or EP studies. You will rotate through all aspects of the laboratory to ensure safe, efficient care for diverse patient populations.

Qualifications include completion of relevant imaging or nursing programs and cardiac catheterization experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of registered X-Ray Technologist or Cardiovascular Technologist program or accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program.
• Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Prepares a patient for cardiac catheterization, PTCA, or EP study and maintains sterile techniques.
• Assists the physician as a scrub person during a cardiac catheterization or PTCA.
• Monitors the patient during the cardiac catheterization.
• Develops the film after each procedure and maintains the quality control of the darkroom.
• Anticipates the activities of each existing catheterization lab and keeps the schedule flowing consistently.
• Maintains proper customer services with all areas that interact with laboratory.
• Keeps a neat and clean work environment.
• Reviews normal blood work when checking a patients chart pre-cath and reports to RN or physician as necessary.

Job Details

SHIFT: Primarily M-F / 7a-5:30pm

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To prepare patients for invasive procedure, and assist the physician during a diagnostic catheterization, PTCA, or electrophysiology study. Rotates through all aspects of the laboratory.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares a patient for cardiac catheterization, PTCA, or EP study and maintains sterile techniques.
• Assists the physician as a scrub person during a cardiac catheterization or PTCA.
• Monitors the patient during the cardiac catheterization.
• Develops the film after each procedure and maintains the quality control of the darkroom.
• Anticipates the activities of each existing catheterization lab and keeps the schedule flowing consistently.
• Maintains proper customer services with all areas that interact with laboratory.
• Keeps a neat and clean work environment.
• Reviews normal blood work when checking a patients chart pre-cath and reports to RN or physician as necessary.
• Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed.
• Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
• Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
• Performs other duties as required.

Frequent contact with physicians, nursing units, patient escort services, and the bed coordinator.

Education and Experience Requirements

Completion of registered X-Ray Technologist or Cardiovascular Technologist program or accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program.

Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Knowledge, Skill, And Ability Requirements

• Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart.
• Knowledge of rhythms, disrhythms, and pressures in the chambers of the heart.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures, knowledge of the intro-aortic balloon pump.
• Knowledge of drug interactions as related to pediatric, adolescent adult and geriatric patients.
• Knowledge of radiation safety for patients and employees.
• Skill in functioning as a darkroom technician.
• Skill in manual dexterity and viewing a computer terminal.
• Skill in communicating professionally on any level of contact.
• Skill in oral and written communications.
• Ability to calculate valve areas.
• Ability to maintain an efficient productivity level.
• Ability to perform CPR if needed on any individual.

Special Requirements

BLS and ACLS within one year of hire.

Physical Demands

Frequent lifting of incapacitated patients, standing and bending for extended periods while wearing a protective lead apron (weighs 20 lbs).

Working Conditions

Spaciously limited and highly stressed environment. Exposure to radiation, blood, and body fluids.

Hourly Pay Range: $38.98 - $62.38 This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
