Job summary

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking a dedicated Cardiac Sonographer 2 to join the Echo Lab at Inova Fairfax Medical Center. The role supports advanced imaging including 3D and strain imaging on Philips systems, with opportunities for education, clinical ladder progression, and ongoing professional development.

The position offers a full-time day shift, Monday–Friday, with sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

  • Work schedule: Monday–Friday days; no holidays or weekends.
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school/program of diagnostic medical sonography or five years of specialized training in a hospital/healthcare setting.
  • License: ARDMS Registered with RDCS Certification or CCI Registered with RCS Certification for Echo, or ARDMS with RVT or CCI with the RVS Certification for Vascular.
  • Mandatory extensive credentialing requirements for ongoing education and QA participation.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize clinical and emergent problems that may interfere with exams and communicate with physicians to ensure proper use.
  • Perform proper IV contrast injection techniques and maintain supplies for procedures.
  • Verify patient identity and orders with high accuracy; maintain credential status and attend QA conferences.
  • Ensure patient safety and aseptic technique; document issues in tracking systems and maintain equipment cleanliness.

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus - Adult Echo Lab is looking for a dedicated Cardiac Sonographer 2 to join the Inova Fairfax Medical Center Echo Lab. The echo lab is an advanced imaging center with a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, education, innovation, and research. Our lab is nationally accredited through the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission and is comprised of over 22 sonographers and 25 physicians who support our award‑winning clinical programs and hospital.

The lab has a full fleet of updated Philips machines with advanced 3D and strain imaging technology available and offers regular educational opportunities to assist in developing your knowledge and skill set. Cardiovascular Sonographers also teach cardiology fellows and sonography students. Career development is offered through a clinical ladder. This role will be a full-time day shift, Monday–Friday. Sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance are eligible.

Cardiac Sonographer 2 Job Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them while producing the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction. Communicates effectively with ordering and/or interpreting physicians to ensure appropriate use.
  • Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast or other test‑enhancing solutions, in accordance with the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards. Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required supplies readily available for procedures.
  • Correctly identifies patients and appropriate orders, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mismatched studies. Maintains active credential status by complying with continual education requirements. Attends at least 50 percent of QA conferences.
  • Demonstrates patient safety in the department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as demonstrated by risk management. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by documentation in the tracking system. Demonstrates proper care and aseptic cleaning of all patient‑related equipment following established department policies to ensure the quality of care provided to patients.
  • Troubleshoots equipment effectively and reports equipment to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports. Performs or recognizes need for routine maintenance of echo vascular equipment for consistency of quality images, as evidenced by the physician and the exam results.

  • Certification: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Experience: One year of experience after acquiring registry in a hospital/healthcare environment in the performance of cardiac or vascular sonography care setting.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience as a cardiac sonographer.
