Job summary

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Research Assistant to provide technical support in a cardiovascular lab under the PI.

You will plan and execute experiments, collect and analyze data, and perform bench work with small animal studies and molecular biology. Responsibilities include animal studies, cell culture maintenance, Western Blot and immunostaining, buffer prep, and meticulous record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences or related field.
• 1-3 years experience in a related field.
• Previous experience with animal care and handling is required for this position.
• Knowledge of basic genetics, molecular biology, and biochemical principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist with animal studies in small rodents (mice).
• Maintain cultures of endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells.
• Perform lab techniques such as Western Blot and immunostaining procedures: selection and preparation of antibody and reagents, imaging in bright-field or fluorescence microscopy.
• Prepare buffers, chemical agents, and other solutions as defined by specific research protocols.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, inventory, and safety in a clean, organized environment.
• Follow SOPs and research procedures to ensure accurate results.
• Assist with experimental planning, timelines, and sample processing.
• Collect, label, process, store, and track biological samples per protocols.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and deviations from protocols.
• Assist with quality control and report issues to PI.
• Perform data entry and preliminary analysis using laboratory software.
• Prepare research reports and presentations for meetings and manuscript preparation.
