Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway is seeking a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist to assist physicians in catheterization and electrophysiology procedures. The role includes room preparation, patient instruction, and ongoing care during complex cases in a busy cath lab.

Ideal candidates hold RCIS and ARRT credentials with CV lab exposure; on-call duties may apply. The Lakeway facility offers a Magnet-designated nursing team and a growing cardiovascular program with advanced imaging

Qualifications

  • Accredited program graduate with basic CV lab exposure.
  • ARRT and RCIS certifications required or in progress.
  • Experience in catheterization lab or EP procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians during catheterization and EP procedures.
  • Prepare room and equipment; monitor patient condition.
  • Instruct patients and provide routine and emergency care.
  • Assist with RF/cryotherapy mapping and documentation.
  • Maintain sterile fields; manage room supplies and inventory.
  • Participate in quality control and auditing activities.
  • On-call as required by department policy.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway

Must hold an RCIS, ARRT certification * Open to training Rad Techs interested in transitioning into the Cath Lab*

Work Schedule: PRN Days Minimum of 3 shifts in a 6-week period

Lakeway is located about 25 miles west of downtown Austin. Lakeway is ideally situated on the south shore of Lake Travis in the scenic Texas Hill Country. Lakeway is a resort community complete with golf courses, tennis courts, marinas, a 65-mile long lake, 100 acres of parkland and trails, and nearly 500 acres of greenbelts. You can enjoy Dining at the famous The Oasis on Lake Travis while enjoying the gorgeous views of the Rolling Hills and the abundance of sailboats floating on the Lake.

Baylor Scott & White Health Lakeway is a 121 bed, Full-Service hospital. The Medical Center is a certified primary stroke center, a certified chest pain center. Lakeway has achieved Magnet recognition for its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care.

Must live within 30 minutes of hospital

  • 3 procedure suites. 2 GE fluoroscopy units (soon to be upgraded to Phillips), Siemens biplane system. 12 private room pre/post holding rooms.
  • Procedures: Cardiology- left heart catheterization, PFO closure, STEMI/MI, mechanical device insertions, lithotripsy, thrombectomy, renal stenting, peripheral vascular, PCI. Interventional radiology - kyphoplasty, port-a-cath placements, biopsies, cryoablations, uterine artery embolization, prostate embolization, GI bleed embolization, thrombectomy, percutaneous drain placement, paracentesis, thoracentesis, fistulagrams. Electrophysiology - pacemaker, ablation, cryo-ablation, pulse field ablation. Population - varies (adult)

Spacious Procedure rooms and spread out and support the nurse who is circulating and also the Scrub tech, Physician. If they need to bring equipment they have the room.

3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio for pre/post. Techs rotate modalities and procedures.

Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, under general supervision, assists Physicians during catheterization / electrophysiology lab procedures. Prepares room and equipment, instructs patients, monitors patient's condition and provides routine and emergency patient care during procedures. Contributes to the orientation and training of other personnel. Assist in daily, monthly, and or quarterly quality control initiative through auditing and reporting.

Essential Functions Of The Role

Assists Physicians with arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, implantable cardiac defibrillators, diagnostic and interventional, peripheral and coronary, interventional and thrombolytic therapy. Follows national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self and staff. Provides emergency procedures (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, etc.) as needed.

Performs pre and post-procedure care and monitoring. Orients patients for catheterization or electrophysiology procedures. Answers related questions to make patient comfortable.

Monitors patient’s ECG, pressures, temperature and impendences while in Electrophysiology Lab; notifies physician of variances. Assists in running RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and records other procedural documentation. Manages and maintains images that may include stenosis analysis, formatting and processing on both cardiac and peripheral cases.

Assists in procedure rooms and collects registry and quality data on appropriate forms. Gathers catheterize-tion data and prepares procedure reports.

Prepares and maintains sterile fields for Lab procedures. Orders and maintains inventory of procedure room supplies. Ensures procedure rooms are adequately stocked and equipment has not expired. Coordinates and/or audits resources during yearly inventories.

Performs routine calibration and maintenance of complex equipment; notifies appropriate personnel for repairs.

Assist in the orientation and training of new staff and students or extra duties as determined by supervisor/manager. Oversees some level of quality control monitoring, such as NPSG auditing, turnaround times, performance improvement initiatives. (Daily, monthly and/or quarterly).

Participates in shared governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees. This can also include LEAN initiatives, NOBLE, 5S projects, inter-departmental committee, or any professional organization participation, QC assurance with leaders, etc. Oversees the committee as requested.

Transports patients to and from procedural area. Demonstrates good customer service skills.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Education and/or Experience requirements (must meet one of the following):

  • Associates degree in a related field of, or
  • Completion of US military training program and experience equivalent to an Associate’s equivalent or 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience, or
  • 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience.

Must be available for ?On Call? response requirements per facility/department policy.

Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular principles, instrumentation and techniques.

Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

  • EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program
  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
Certification/License/Registration
  • ACLS (ACLS): ACLS within 30 days of hire/transfer.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer.
  • ARRT-R Radiography (ARRT-R), Cert Cardiac Device Spec (CCDS), Cert EP Specialist (CEPS), Medical Radiologic Tech (MRT), Reg Cardio Electrophysiology (RCES), Reg Cardiovascular Invasive Sp (RCIS): Must meet one of the following:
  • American Registry of Radiologic Tech(ARRT-R) and MRT
  • thru TX Medical Board, or
  • Cardio Invasive Spec(RCIS), or
  • Reg Cardiac Electro Spec(RCES), or
  • Cert Electro Spec(CEPS), or
  • Cert Cardiac Device Spec (CCDS).
