Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Lakeway seeks a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist to assist physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. You will prepare the room, monitor patients, and contribute to quality initiatives in a busy lab serving adult patients.

The role requires RCIS/ARRT certification, an associate degree or 2 years CV lab experience, on-call availability, and the ability to work across modalities with a focus on patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s degree or 2 years related CV lab experience.
  • Must be available for on‑call per facility policy.
  • Knowledge to apply complex invasive cardiac/vascular procedures and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with arteriograms and catheterizations.
  • Monitor patient condition during procedures and provide routine and emergency care.
  • Maintain sterile fields and prepare equipment and room.
  • Train and orient new staff and students as needed.
  • Participate in quality data collection and audits.

$15,000 Sign On Bonus for Cath Lab Techs at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway, 100 Medical Parkway, Lakeway, TX 78738.

We’re offering a $15,000 Sign On Bonus & relocation package to Cath Lab (CVIS) Professionals.

Must hold an RCIS or ARRT certification. Open to training Rad Techs interested in transitioning into the Cath Lab.

Work Schedule

4–10 hour day shifts, Monday–Thursday call only. Minimal weekend call, approximately one weekend every four months.

Location & Requirements

Lakeway is located about 25 miles west of downtown Austin on the south shore of Lake Travis. The Baylor Scott & White Health Lakeway is a 121‑bed full‑service hospital, certified primary stroke and chest pain center, and Magnet recognized for nursing excellence. Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital.

Procedure Suites
  • 3 procedure suites: 2 GE fluoroscopy units (soon upgraded to Philips), Siemens biplane system, 12 private room pre/post holding rooms.
  • Procedures: Cardiology—left heart catheterization, PFO closure, STEMI/MI, mechanical device insertions, lithotripsy, thrombectomy, renal stenting, peripheral vascular, PCI; Interventional radiology—kyphoplasty, port‑a‑cath placements, biopsies, cryoablations, uterine artery embolization, prostate embolization, GI bleed embolization, thrombectomy, percutaneous drain placement, paracentesis, thoracentesis, fistulograms; Electrophysiology—pacemaker, ablation, cryo‑ablation, pulse field ablation. Population is adult.

Spacious procedure rooms support the nurse circulating, scrub tech, and physician. Rooms are equipped for equipment transport.

3:1 nurse‑to‑patient ratio for pre/post. Techs rotate modalities and procedures.

Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, under general supervision, assists Physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. Prepares room and equipment, instructs patients, monitors patient condition, and provides routine and emergency care. Contributes to orientation and training of other team members. Helps daily, monthly, and quarterly quality control initiatives through auditing and reporting.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Assists Physicians with arteriograms, catheterizations, implantations, interventional procedures.
  • Follows national and state radiation protection regulations; provides CPR and defibrillation as needed.
  • Performs pre‑ and post‑procedure care and monitoring.
  • Orients patients for catheterization or electrophysiology procedures; answers questions.
  • Monitors ECG, pressures, temperature and impedances; notifies physician of variances.
  • Runs RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and documents procedures.
  • Manages and maintains images, including stenosis testing.
  • Collects registry and quality data.
  • Prepares and maintains sterile fields for lab procedures.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of procedure room supplies; ensures they are stocked and non‑expired.
  • Coordinates and audits resources during yearly inventories.
  • Performs routine calibration and maintenance of complex equipment; notifies team for fixes.
  • Helps orient and train new staff, students, or for extra duties.
  • Oversees quality control monitoring (NPSG auditing, turnaround times, performance improvement initiatives).
  • Participates in governance, departmental committees, professional organizations, LEAN initiatives, NOBLE, 5S projects.
  • Transports patients to and from procedural area.
  • Demonstrates good customer service skills.
Key Success Factors
  • Education: Associate’s degree in a related field, or completion of US military training program equivalent to an Associate’s degree, or 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience.
  • Must be available for on‑call response requirements per facility/department policy.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular values, instrumentation, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree or 2 years of related work experience.
  • Experience: Less than 1 year of experience.
Certification / License / Registration
  • ACLS: to be completed within 30 days of hire/transfer.
  • BLS: to be completed within 30 days of hire/transfer.
  • Must hold one of the following credentials: ARRT‑R Radiography, Cert Cardiac Device Spec (CCDS), Cert EP Specialist (CEPS), Medical Radiologic Tech (MRT), Reg Cardio Electrophysiology (RCES), Reg Cardiovascular Invasive Spec (RCIS), or equivalent.
