Job summary

Northside Hospital in Lawrenceville, GA is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant (CSTFA) to support the cardiothoracic operating room under the supervision of the cardiothoracic surgeon during complex interventions.

The CSTFA will apply traction, assist with hemostasis, and help with wound closure, working closely with the cardiovascular team to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Two years of cardiac surgery experience.
• Knowledge of cardiac surgery procedures pertaining to heart revascularization, valve repair/replacement, aortic dissection, and conduction system, equipment/instrument operation and care, and implant preparation.
• Knowledge of advanced anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass.
• Knowledge of advanced sterile technique and asepsis.
• BCLS certification.
• Knowledge of medical ethics.
• Good vision, hearing and manual dexterity: ability to transfer patients safe from bed/stretcher to operating room table.
• Technical Competencies: Skin prep - Laser Safety - CPR

Responsibilities

• Assist the cardiothoracic surgeon in the operating room by applying traction or counter-traction as needed.
• Help maintain hemostasis during surgery and assist with wound closure at completion of the procedure.
• Demonstrate competencies for cardiothoracic surgical procedures, techniques, and equipment required for the cardiovascular operating room.
• Provide technical assistance and support to medical/surgical staff during surgical procedures.
• May specialize in one or more services.
