Job description

The UC Davis School of Medicine, Department of Radiology is recruiting for two full-time Cardiothoracic Imaging Radiologist in the Professor of Clinical \"X\" Series or Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series, at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank, commensurate with experience and credentials.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical \"X\" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is essential for appointment in this series.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.

Candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree and must be fellowship trained in Cardiothoracic Imaging or possess equivalent subspecialty training and experience. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for full licensure in the State of California and/or meet eligibility requirements for a California Special Permit. Candidates must also be board certified in Diagnostic Radiology or eligible for the initial certification examination of the American Board of Radiology. A documented interest in research and teaching, a record of scholarly activity, and expertise in cardiovascular and thoracic imaging are highly desirable. The successful candidate should have a strong interest in working collaboratively within a diverse academic and clinical environment.

The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of cardiothoracic imaging, including chest radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with expertise and interest across cardiovascular and thoracic imaging. Clinical responsibilities will include participation in multidisciplinary conferences and collaboration with colleagues in cardiopulmonary medicine, infectious diseases, pediatric cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and other related specialties. Participation in weekend call coverage in rotation with other members of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division is expected.

The position includes opportunities to participate in patient care, education, scholarly activity, research, and service, with expectations varying according to the academic series. Particular emphasis will be placed on excellence in clinical care, trainee education, collaboration, breadth of knowledge, and flexibility within an academic radiology environment.

The Department of Radiology performs approximately 400,000 examinations annually and includes 68 full-time faculty, providing a high-volume, academically rich environment for clinical care, education, and research. The department offers access to an exceptional portfolio of state-of-the-art imaging technology, including advanced 3T and 1.5T MRI systems, ultra-high-resolution CT, and the EXPLORER Total-Body PET/CT scanner. The cardiothoracic imaging program is supported by Siemens photon-counting CT, advanced Canon and United Imaging CT platforms equipped with the latest cardiac imaging capabilities, including 1024-matrix super-resolution reconstruction, AI CardioBoost, and advanced cardiac CT applications. The department is also expanding its CT infrastructure with five new GE Revolution CT scanners, incorporating the latest ECG-less cardiac imaging and advanced cardiac acquisition and reconstruction technologies.

Clinical and research activities extend across UC Davis Health facilities, including the region’s Level I Trauma Center, the EXPLORER Molecular Imaging Center, and the state-of-the- 48X Complex and Outpatient Surgery Center, which opened in 2025. The Cardiothoracic Imaging Division also benefits from the Cardiothoracic Advanced Research Lab (CARL) at UC Davis, which provides a dedicated platform for cardiothoracic imaging research, technology development, quantitative imaging, artificial intelligence, and collaboration with clinical and engineering partners. Together, these resources provide substantial opportunities for clinical innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, education, translational research, and development of next-generation cardiothoracic imaging technologies.
