The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Cardiology Nurse RN for the Olathe Medical Pavilion, days, full time. You will provide professional nursing care for cardiology patients, assess needs, plan and coordinate treatment with the health care team, and support discharge planning.

Required is a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and 2+ years of RN experience, with an active RN license (multistate or single-state) and Life Support certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • 2+ years of RN experience.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with multistate or single-state license in good standing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 14 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and provide nursing care for patients in the Cardiology unit.
  • Coordinate care with physicians and health-care team to develop and implement plans.
  • Maintain patient lists, handle consults, triage admissions and discharges.
  • Assist with discharge planning and home care coordination.
  • Perform venipunctures and EKGs as needed.
  • Educate patients and families on medications and follow-up care.

Position Title

Cardiology Nurse RN (RN) Days - Full Time Olathe Medical Pavilion B

Job Summary / Career Interest

Hours: 7:30-5, rotating day off, no weekends. The Cardiology Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation for the comfort and well-being of patients. Carries out a plan of care specific to unit competencies for the target patient population. Coordinates care deliver through collaboration with all health care team providers to ensure safe, effective and quality patient care.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Critically evaluate emergency situations and initiate appropriate intervention; collaborates with physician for recommendations to address patient’s problems or questions.
  • Facilitates efficient patient workflow in clinic setting.
  • Maintain physicians’ patient list and answer consult page; collaborate with other rounding nurses, and ARNP’s in triage of new admissions, consults and discharges.
  • Assess and evaluate patients for discharge planning; work with care coordinator to facilitate home assessment, home care, medications, education, nutrition and follow-up.
  • Follows policies/procedures regarding Amiodarone and Coumadin management and follow-up.
  • Educates patient/family on new medication therapy.
  • Reviews all labs, x-ray reports; enter data in the electronic medical record (EMR), report results and physician recommendations to patient as needed.
  • Perform venipunctures and perform EKG’s when necessary.
  • Arrange for follow-up appointments through central scheduling and CV follow-up form.
  • Communicate with appropriate outpatient cardiology staff for outpatient management.
  • Support initiatives to meet appropriate length of stay and disease management outcomes; facilitate timely discharge of patients.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor Degree Nursing 2 or more years of RN experience.

Required Licensure and Certification

Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing - in state in which you live OR Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing - active with multistate in progress with proof of application. Must have current active multistate state Register Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live OR active single state RN license in good standing in the state you will be working with proof of application of a multistate RN license in the state in which you live. Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 4/30/2026.

Basic Life Support
  • Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
