Job summary

Midwest Cardiovascular Institute in Elmhurst, IL seeks a skilled non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic technician with phlebotomy duties. Responsibilities include registration and instruction for holter/telemetry monitoring, sleep study guidance, and EMR documentation. Experience with EKGs and blood draws is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current CPR certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross required.
  • Six months cardiology or minimum one year of general healthcare experience preferred.
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Register holter, telemetry, MCT, and event monitors.
  • Instruct patients how to utilize holter, telemetry, MCT, and event monitors.
  • Call patients when late to return a monitor.
  • Monitor inventory management. Report unreturned monitors to PA to coordinate with billing office; report broken/lost monitors to Practice Admin for replacement.
  • Instruct patients how to use sleep study monitor.
  • Assist in clinic with EKGs as needed.
  • Assist in clinic with blood draws as needed.
  • Document progress of patient care within EMR as it relates to role.

Job description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, conducts various non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic tests such as computerized 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKG), Holter monitor hook-ups and removal, event monitor application, telemetry, and retrieval of transmission. Performs as a phlebotomist in the clinics drawing blood samples and performing finger sticks pro-times.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
  1. High school diploma required.
  2. Current CPR certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross required.
  3. Six months cardiology or minimum one year of general healthcare experience preferred.
  4. Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  1. Register holter, telemetry, MCT, and event monitors.
  2. Instruct patients how to utilize holter, telemetry, MCT, and event monitors.
  3. Call patients when late to return a monitor.

Exhibits good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times.
  7. Exhibits whenever possible a harmonious relationship with other employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position. While perfect harmonious relationships with all employees is sometimes not achievable, not more than an occasional complaint should be received by the team leader about the incumbent of this position.
  8. The employee shall work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) of the organization to assure optimum care for the patients of the organization and to achieve standards of care set forth by the medical staff.
  9. Adheres to the Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties. Uses best efforts to maintain compliance by following the Corporate Compliance Plan, attending compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.
  10. Performs accurate and complete documentation in the patient’s medical record, when applicable. This includes documentation in both the paper record and the electronic medical record (EMR).
  11. Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development.
  12. Maintains patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
