University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City seeks a Cardiac Sonographer to perform transthoracic, transesophageal and Doppler echocardiography, providing direct patient care and supporting imaging procedures across the department.

Qualifications

  • Registry eligibility in Cardiac Sonography with intent to obtain certification within one year.
  • Ability to perform transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography according to department protocols.
  • Knowledge of life span growth and development to care for diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform cardiac ultrasounds including transthoracic, transesophageal, and Doppler exams.
  • Assist in training echocardiography techniques and procedures.
  • Maintain patient data logs and prepare preliminary reports.
  • Ensure equipment sanitation and instrument decontamination.

This position is responsible for performing all aspects of cardiac sonography which includes transthoracic, two dimensional m-mode and doppler procedures, transesophageal procedures, pharmacologic/non-pharmacologic stress echocardiograms, and imaging procedures. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Coordinates and prioritizes ordered exams.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with medical staff including, but not limited to, physicians, APC's, medical fellows and residents, and other medical staff.
  • Collects medical information and patient histories.
  • Performs cardiac ultrasound exams in accordance to the department and overseeing accredited body's outlined protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the training of echocardiographic techniques and procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects transesophageal probes and other equipment and decontaminates the exam area.
  • Performs quantitative measurements and calculations of the acquired data and provides preliminary reports.
  • Maintains logs of patient data and files reports.
  • Orders and restocks supplies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.

Qualifications

Required

  • Registry eligibility in Cardiac Sonography - candidate must obtain one (1) of the indicated registrations within one (1) year of hire.
Licenses Required
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • One of the following
  • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with an Adult Echocardiography (RDCS-AE) specialty through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Current certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
