Job summary

Overlake Medical Center & Clinics is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to perform diagnostic procedures and assist physicians. The role requires proper patient identification, safety practices, and clear communication of results to cardiologists.

The position is full-time with a 10-hour day shift schedule on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Applicants should have completed an accredited imaging program or equivalent, with RDCS or RCS certification or registry eligibility.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited imaging program or military/hospital-based training, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must hold RDCS or RCS certification or be eligible for registry with certification within six months of hire.
• Requires RDCS or RCS certification through ARDMS or CCI; registry eligibility allowed with 6-month deadline; CPR required.
• Previous hospital experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Procedure: obtain pertinent information, verify physician orders, greet patient, explain procedure.
• During Procedure: ensure patient comfort, correctly identify patient using two identifiers.
• Post-Procedure: inform patient when results available, prepare echocardiograms for interpretation, ensure charges and MAR entries.

Job description

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic procedures as well as assisting physicians with diagnostic procedures in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.

• Pre-Procedure the Cardiac Sonographer:
  • Obtains pertinent patient/clinical information prior to exam, ensuring physician order matches the clinical information, bringing to physician’s attention if there is a question.
  • Greets patients in a respectful manner.
  • Explains the procedure to the satisfaction of the patient.
• During the Procedure the Cardiac Sonographer:
  • Ensures patient comfort during the exam.
  • Properly identifies patient using standard safety practice (two patient identifiers) of asking his/her full name and date of birth, as well as checking unit number and date.

• Post-Procedure the Cardiac Sonographer:
  • Informs patient as to when results will be available for their physician.
  • Prepares echocardiograms for interpretation by cardiologists.
  • Ensures all charges are entered correctly and medications entered into the MAR as applicable

Full Time / Day Shift
Sunday-Monday & Thursday-Friday / 10 hour shifts
Qualifications

• Completion of one of the following is required: Satisfactory completion of an accredited imaging program or formal military or hospital-based applicable training program. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Has obtained either the RDCS or RCS certification AND is a current student who meets all graduation requirements to officially graduate within 3 months of hire. Independent verification of Certificate of Completion will be obtained by Overlake.
• Requires Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). May be hired without certification if registry eligible. If registry eligible, must obtain certification within six months of hire date. Healthcare provider CPR is also required.
• Previous hospital experience desirable.
