Job summary

UAB St. Vincent's in Alabama is seeking a Cardiovascular Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures on cardiac and vascular structures, ensuring high-quality images and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

You will operate and optimize ultrasound equipment, document findings for interpretation, and support a busy radiology department with a focus on patient care and accuracy. A comprehensive credentialing path is required within the first year of hire.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required or within 30 days of hire.
• CCI Cardiographic Sonographer credential required within 12 months of hire.
• RDCS or RVS credential issued by CCI/ARDMS obtained within 12 months of hire.
• ARRT Radiologic Technologist (Radiography) credential obtained within 12 months of hire.
• ARRT Radiologic Technologist (Sonography) credential obtained within 12 months of hire.
• VT credentialed from ARDMS obtained prior to hire date.
• RDCS credentialed from ARDMS obtained within 12 months of hire date.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience or Associate degree; accredited program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures of cardiac and vascular structures.
• Sets up and adjusts equipment; maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
• Adheres to safety standards and quality control procedures.
• Performs routine and complex cardiac/vascular studies; assists in related procedures.
• Recognizes structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
• Ensures equipment is functioning; reports issues; lock/tag out as needed.
• Submits high-quality images and patient data to PACS with proper markers.
• Maintains clean, organized department and exam rooms.
• Maintains regulatory compliance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

• Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine cardiac and vascular structures in accordance with accepted protocols, providing quality images for interpretation
• Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
• Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
• Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of cardiac and/or vascular imaging procedures.
• Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
• Ensures equipment is properly functioning. Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
• Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Assists in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

• Licensure / Certification / Registration:
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
• A Cardiographic Sonographer credential issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) must be obtained prior to hire or within 12 months (1 year) of hire date. Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is also accepted.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to or within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to or within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date.
• Vascular Technologist (VT) credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date.
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date.
• Education :
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 2 years of experience or Associate's degree required. Graduate of an accredited sonography program preferred.
