Responsibilities
  • Perform echocardiograms and manage the imaging system during a transesophageal echocardiogram using state‑of‑the‑art methods and equipment.
  • Perform exercise and pharmacological echocardiograms proficiently.
  • Meet lab education and training protocol requirements to administer contrast imaging agents to patients.
  • Determine the need for using imaging contrast on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • Administer contrast imaging agent when necessary.
  • Using the CVIS (cardiovascular information system), perform measurements and analyze results of echocardiogram to facilitate physicians interpretation of test results.
  • Utilize the patient's electronic health record to check exam orders and record appropriate study information.
  • Educate and position the patient in preparation for the echocardiogram.
  • Transport portable imaging equipment to patient's bedside in locations throughout the hospital.
  • Conduct in‑service training programs for nursing and physician staff and students.
  • Mentor and orient new employees.
  • Clean, maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, endoscopes, and other equipment.
  • Ensure that exam rooms are orderly and stocked with supplies.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) accreditation.
  • Participate in a collaborative work environment.
  • Participate in the implementation and performance of safety and quality assurance procedures.
  • Attend QA conferences.
  • May participate in research activities, prepares and maintains records and reports.
  • Follow the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Promote effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team interand interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Report any malfunctions and calls the service personnel as needed.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum Education/Work Experience: Two year degree in non‑invasive cardiology
  • License/Certification: Credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) OR Credentialed by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) OR must meet the eligibility requirements to take the ARDMS/CCI examination.

  • Experience in Stress Echo
