Valley Health is seeking a Registered Nurse I (RN I) for the NURSING FLOAT department. The RN I will perform the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, while leading and coordinating patient education and quality/safety initiatives.
Regular duties include documentation and time management with a focus on teamwork. Commitment to annual competencies, continued education and professional practice development is required.
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism. Also directs, coordinates and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. They are required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and Professional Practice Ladder requirements which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, PI activity and department initiatives, communicating and sharing information with the Director/Designee and co‑workers from unit or hospital committee, attending Valley Health paid education/seminars/conferences, workshops or nursing articles. Portfolio must be current and submitted by March 1st annually. They routinely solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction, participate in peer review for the unit, and develop bulletin board or posters providing educational information to staff/patients/family members.

Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required. Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred.
RN License required. Licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a multi‑state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single‑state license valid in Virginia only.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Relevant Specialty Certification preferred.
