Job summary

Summit Healthcare is seeking a skilled Cardiac Device Technician to perform device interrogations, reprogramming, and remote monitoring across hospital departments and clinics. This on-site role requires strong technical and patient-service abilities to support cardiology teams.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, CPR/BLS and ACLS certifications, basic EKG knowledge, and at least one year of related experience; training will be provided for orientation.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Description

General Position Summary:

The Cardiac Device Technician provides thorough, competent interrogations and reprogramming of implanted cardiac devices including but not limited to pacemakers, implantable loop recorders, and implantable cardiac defibrillators. Device checks are completed in the department, in other hospital departments, outlying clinics, and remotely monitored patients.

Essential Functions/ Major Responsibilities:

• Performs interrogation of the patient's device with the programmer that is appropriate for their device, printing out and reviewing data such as parameter, battery and lead status, and heart rate histograms.
• Performs output threshold testing of the pacemaker lead(s) to determine optimal settings for the device.
• Determines underlying rhythm and sensing function, if requested. Verifies final parameters and changes, referring results to be reviewed by a Cardiologist.
• Collaborate with providers regarding device status and accurately document device analysis in the electronic medical record for review.
• Refers the patient to the ordering provider for any changes in the patient's condition or worsening of symptoms or arrhythmias.
• Accompany patient to the Emergency Department as needed.
• Consults technical support specialist of the company that has manufactured the implanted device for a detailed review of the findings and for assistance with advanced programming details.
• Reviews remote monitoring services for monitoring transmissions and notify provider as necessary.
• Notes any device and lead alerts that are received from any manufacturer and notifies patients who are affected by such alerts.
• Schedule patients for follow-up appointments.
• Contact 'no show' patients to ensure they get rescheduled.
• Enter charges in the computer billing system for interrogations, reprogramming, and remote monitoring.

Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:

This position requires operational knowledge of office equipment in the Pacemaker department as well as department specific equipment including monitors, device programmers, non-invasive blood pressure cuff, scanner, fax machine, printer, phone system, computer, and commonly used hospital computer programs. Must read, write, and speak English. Must also be service oriented and have excellent computer skills, problem solving skills, customer service skills, organizational skills, multi-tasking skills, professional interpersonal skills, time management skills, telephone etiquette, and have the ability to prioritize work.

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
• Basic Computer Skills (required)
• CPR/BLS Certification (required within 30 days of hire)*
• ACLS Certification (required within 60 days of hire)*
• Basic EKG training with arrhythmia knowledge
• 1 year related experience (preferred)

*Cannot be released from orientation until completed

Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

Light:

Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and negligible amounts of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. The worker is exposed to extensive computer work.
