Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiac CT exams and ensure patient safety.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the CT department and ensure equipment is functional.

Job Summary

Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to procedures. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Patient Care
    • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
    • Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to avoid deterioration or undue pain.
    • Ensures proper patient identification and reviews images for clinically acceptable results.
    • Responds to emergency situations and assists other technologists when needed.
    • Verifies correct identity of patient prior to performing a procedure according to policy.
    • Ensures patient privacy, comfort and dignity throughout the exam.
    • Demonstrates competence in procedures, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
    • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to meet designated time frames.
    • Preps patient for the procedure and understands pre‑and‑post procedural care.
    • Establishes and follows the Time‑Out process when appropriate.
    • Uses appropriate safety devices, anatomical positioning and labeling of body parts.
    • Employs critical‑thinking skills and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
    • Utilizes dose‑reduction techniques.
  • Equipment
    • Adjusts technique for optimal image quality.
    • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider.
    • Maintains cleanliness and infection control of equipment.
    • Operates patient monitoring system.
  • Education and Communications
    • Explains exam to patients using AIDET communication.
    • Addresses patient questions and escalates when necessary.
    • Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
    • Maintains concise, legible documentation.
    • Follows departmental and hospital‑wide education requirements.
  • Quality Control
    • Produces acceptable images following established protocols.
    • Ensures equipment calibration before use.
    • Sends studies to PACS immediately after completion.
    • Prints and scans studies for teleradiography as needed.
    • Maintains CT suite safety and secured environment.
  • Cardiac CT Scanning
    • Understands cardiac protocols and pulse sequences.
    • Protocols studies and adjusts for patient factors.
    • Selects appropriate look‑locker and prepulse delays.
    • Adjusts BB pulse thickness for blood suppression.
    • Evaluates phase contrast series for aliasing and corrects velocity encoding.
    • Communicates with cardiac radiologist and provides additional sequences as requested.
  • Operations
    • Restocks linens and supplies; maintains clean CT department.
    • Transports, positions, and assists patients on and off the table.
    • Performs charging activities on day of service.
    • Applies immobilization devices.
    • Provides assistance and knowledge to colleagues as needed.
    • Performs clerical duties to ensure continuity and quality of services.
    • Informs supervisor of responsibilities and potential problems.
    • Maintains individual productivity rate.
    • Pushes/retrieves studies to/from PACS.
    • Maintains Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
    • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies.
    • Available for on‑call duties when required.
Required Minimum Education

Successful completion of an accredited CT program or ARRT‑R and WellStar Cardiac CT training program.

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
  • Basic Life Support or BLS – Instructor
  • ARRT Computed Tomography or ARRT Radiography
Additional License(s) and Certification(s)

All certifications required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 2 years of clinical experience caring for patients. Prefer experience in CT clinical setting.
