Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a dedicated Cardiac Catheterization Specialist II to join the Arnett Hospital cath lab. The role includes teaching patients about research projects and procedures, assisting with procedures, and precepting new staff while ensuring high standards of patient care in all cath lab activities.

The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of cath lab experience, BLS/ACLS certifications, and strong knowledge of equipment, scrubbing and circulating techniques.

Qualifications

• Post-high school coursework in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology; health care coursework preferred.
• Professional degree or certification relevant to the experience
• RCIS or LPN licensure/degree required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required per policy
• 1–2 years cath/electrophysiology lab experience; leadership preferred
• Knowledge of cath/EP procedures and equipment
• Ability to scrub and circulate during procedures
• Ability to prep, program, reprogram and troubleshoot equipment
• Willingness to stay on 24-hour call
• RCVT experience preferred

Job description

Overview

This position is full time, days. The shift is 7:30am - 5pm, at Arnett Hospital. Teaches patients about research project and procedures, participates in special projects, serves as preceptor of new employees in cardiac cath, and circulates and scrubs for all types of cardiac catheterization procedures. Provides general patient care to cardiac catheterization patients, sets up and runs equipment, and performs basic cardiac catheterization procedures.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Requires post high school coursework in anatomy; physiology and medical terminology; college coursework in health care; biological science or related disciplines preferred.
• Requires professional degree or certification when commonly associated with the professional experience the candidate possesses.
• Requires minimum education and certification required to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or required licensure and appropriate degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires 1-2 years of cardiac catheterization lab and/or electrophysiology lab experience; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Requires knowledge of all types of cardiac catheterization procedures and/or electrophysiology procedures and related equipment and instruments.
• Requires knowledge of scrubbing and circulating techniques to actively assist with cardiac catheterization procedures and/or electrophysiology procedures.
• Requires ability to prep; select; program; reprogram and troubleshoot cardiac catheterization equipment.
• Requires ability to stay knowledgeable about new data and equipment technology.
• Requires ability to assess patients at all times and to teach patients about research projects and tests.
• Requires ability to serve as preceptor to Cardiac Catheterization Specialist I employees and new employees assigned to the Cardiac Catheterization Specialist II position.
• Requires thorough knowledge of cardiac and emergency procedures.
• Requires ability to be on 24‑hour call for emergency procedures.
• Prefer Registered Cardiovascular Technician experience.
• Prefer precepting experience obtained in a cardiac cath lab and/or electrophysiology lab.
• Prefer satisfactory completion of RCVT examination.
