Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Agricultural Program Specialist II (NS) to support the State Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey (CAPS) program. This time-limited, full-time role involves evaluating agricultural risk, developing survey plans, and directing field staff to survey exotic pests across the state.

• Master's degree in horticulture, crop science, weed science, or a closely related curriculum and one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate agricultural risk and develop survey plans for CAPS across the state.
• Implement statewide or localized surveys for exotic pests and pests of export significance.
• Supervise and train temporary staff conducting surveys.
• Direct field staff to survey areas with high likelihood of pests.
• Secure and manage employment and survey funding through USDA-APHIS-PPQ Cooperative Agreements.
• Conduct outreach highlighting early pest detection and awareness among cooperators and the public.
