Job summary

The Office of U.S. Representative Jimmy Gomez seeks a creative and motivated Digital Communications and Press Assistant to join our communications team on Capitol Hill.

This digital-first role is for a strong writer who follows politics and the news and wants to grow their skills communicating the Congressman’s work in Washington and Los Angeles. You will draft social content, assist with press operations, monitor media coverage, and help manage deadlines and assets.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and editing skills.
  • Experience with social media and campaigns.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Willingness to work outside regular hours.
  • Spanish fluency a plus.
  • Team-oriented and receptive to feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Draft social media copy and newsletters.
  • Turn legislation and events into engaging digital content.
  • Maintain the office content calendar and publish across platforms.
  • Monitor breaking news, media coverage, and digital performance.
  • Support digital communications for the Congressional Dads Caucus.
  • Organize photos, videos, graphics, and other digital assets.
  • Assist with email newsletters and promotion of district events.
  • Track press inquiries and prepare materials for interviews and events.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director and team on rapid-response projects.
