Job summary

VALiNTRY Services seeks an experienced Project Engineer, Capital Projects to plan, develop, and execute capital improvement projects from initial concept through commissioning and final completion.

The role will manage an annual capital budget of approximately $1 million or more and collaborate with operations, maintenance, finance, contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

ABOUT THE ROLE

VALiNTRY is seeking an experienced Project Engineer, Capital Projects to plan, develop, and execute capital improvement projects from initial concept through commissioning and final completion.

This role will manage an annual capital budget of approximately $1 million or more and oversee multiple projects simultaneously. You will work directly with operations, maintenance, finance, contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate has significant hands on experience managing industrial capital projects and understands the entire project lifecycle, from identifying the business need and developing the scope through construction, startup, and closeout.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify, scope, and prioritize capital projects based on operational needs, equipment condition, and strategic objectives
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, ROI analyses, and risk assessments
• Develop project charters, preliminary designs, scopes of work, and capital funding requests
• Lead projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and closeout
• Develop and manage detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans
• Manage contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants
• Oversee procurement of equipment, materials, and professional services
• Conduct site inspections to monitor project progress, quality, and safety
• Ensure work complies with project specifications, engineering standards, and safety requirements
• Manage an annual capital budget of approximately $1 million or more
• Track project costs, approve invoices, manage change orders, and maintain accurate financial records
• Identify cost savings without compromising quality, performance, or safety
• Prepare and present project updates to leadership and key stakeholders
• Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to successfully integrate completed projects into the facility
• Manage multiple capital projects simultaneously from concept through completion

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• 12+ years of experience in project engineering or capital project management
• Experience managing capital projects within manufacturing, industrial facilities, utilities, or a similar environment
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects from concept through commissioning and closeout
• Strong knowledge of project planning, budgeting, cost control, scheduling, and risk management
• Experience managing contractors, vendors, and engineering firms
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Primavera, or a similar project management platform
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or other engineering design software
• Strong technical judgment and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management abilities
• Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement

DESIRABLE

• Experience managing multiple concurrent capital projects in an operating manufacturing facility
• Experience developing capital requests and performing ROI or financial justification analyses
• Strong construction, commissioning, and equipment startup experience
• Experience working closely with plant operations and maintenance teams
• Experience identifying cost savings and improving capital project execution

WHAT MAKES A GREAT FIT

The strongest candidate will be comfortable moving between engineering drawings, budgets, contractors, construction sites, plant leadership, and operations. You should be able to identify a business or operational need, develop the technical solution, justify the investment, and then own the project through startup and successful handoff.

This role is particularly well suited for an experienced engineer who can manage multiple priorities without losing control of cost, schedule, quality, or safety.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000 per year. Candidates who bring additional technical capabilities that could benefit the organization may be considered above this range.
