MF Professional Services, Inc. (MFPS) provides human resources, payroll, benefits administration, and operational support to mission-driven organizations. This position may perform services on behalf of MFPS clients, including Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia en Acción.

Position Summary

MFPS is seeking a Canvass Lead to coordinate voter-registration and door-to-door community outreach activities in McAllen and surrounding Rio Grande Valley communities.

The Canvass Lead provides daily direction, training, coaching, and field support to an assigned team of canvassers. Responsibilities include conducting team launches, assigning turf, distributing materials, monitoring field activity, reviewing data, maintaining compliance, and submitting required reports.

The Canvass Lead will also participate directly in door-to-door canvassing and voter-registration activities as needed. Although this position is classified as hybrid, it requires substantial in-person fieldwork throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

This is a temporary position. The duration of the assignment will depend on campaign timelines, available funding, and organizational needs. Temporary employment does not guarantee continued employment or an extension of the assignment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead the daily activities of an assigned door-to-door canvassing team.
• Conduct pre-shift briefings covering daily goals, schedules, turf assignments, scripts, safety requirements, and campaign updates.
• Prepare and assign canvassing turf using VAN, MiniVAN, maps, spreadsheets, or other approved tools.
• Distribute voter-registration forms, literature, mobile devices, identification, and other field materials.
• Ensure canvassers understand their assignments, geographic boundaries, check-in requirements, and performance expectations.
• Coordinate team deployment, breaks, transportation, return times, and end-of-shift procedures.
• Monitor field activity and maintain regular communication with canvassers.
• Shadow employees in the field and provide coaching, feedback, demonstrations, and retraining.
• Conduct door-to-door voter-registration and community-outreach activities when needed.
• Engage community members respectfully using approved scripts, talking points, and materials.
• Review voter-contact results, registration forms, and field reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Track doors knocked, successful contacts, voter registrations, turf completion, and other assigned performance measures.
• Enter or upload results into VAN, MiniVAN, spreadsheets, databases, or other approved systems.
• Submit timely daily and weekly reports to the designated supervisor.
• Maintain custody and tracking records for voter-registration forms and sensitive voter information.
• Ensure completed, incomplete, spoiled, and unread forms are secured and returned according to established procedures.
• Immediately report suspected falsification, misconduct, data manipulation, form mishandling, or other compliance concerns.
• Monitor weather, neighborhood conditions, missed check-ins, and other potential field-safety risks.
• Report injuries, threats, accidents, law-enforcement interactions, and other significant incidents promptly.
• Communicate attendance, performance, conduct, staffing, safety, or operational concerns to management.
• Foster a professional, respectful, inclusive, and accountable team environment.
• Accurately record all time worked and follow organizational timekeeping procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous door-to-door canvassing, voter-registration, campaign, community-outreach, field-organizing, or civic-engagement experience required.
• Previous experience leading, training, coaching, or supporting a canvassing or outreach team preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to establish expectations, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback.
• Ability to manage schedules, field materials, transportation, turf assignments, check-ins, and reporting deadlines.
• Experience using VAN, MiniVAN, mobile canvassing applications, spreadsheets, or comparable technology preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to review voter-registration forms and field data accurately.
• Dependable, punctual, organized, and comfortable working directly with employees and community members.
• Ability to remain professional during difficult or unexpected interactions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect voter, employee, community, and organizational information.
• Familiarity with McAllen and surrounding Rio Grande Valley communities preferred.
• Experience working with Latino or other diverse communities preferred.
• Professional proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended campaign-style hours.
• Ability to travel throughout McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley.
• Must satisfy any voter-registration eligibility, training, appointment, or certification requirements applicable in Texas.
• If driving is required, the employee must maintain a valid driver’s license, legally required automobile insurance, an acceptable driving record, and access to a safe and reliable vehicle unless an organizational vehicle is provided.

Physical and Work Requirements

This position requires extended periods of walking and standing outdoors. The Canvass Lead must be able to canvass and support employees in residential neighborhoods and community locations while navigating sidewalks, stairs, uneven surfaces, and varying terrain.

The position requires the ability to carry outreach materials weighing up to 25 pounds and regularly use a computer, mobile device, clipboard, voter-registration forms, and other field equipment.
