This position is a candidate pool and not a specific position at a school or department. This position may require an initial screening interview before being placed into the Candidate Pool. There may not be an available position(s) at the time of application but positions can become available at any time. The candidate pool is used to refer qualified applicants to the site/department with the open position. SUMMARY

Under general supervision, operates school transit bus on assigned routes to and from school and special events; provides safe and secure transportation service to students. Work is performed in a transit vehicle in a traffic environment, with moderate physical requirements. Required to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Drives students to and from school and special events.
  • Monitors students and enforces District policies and rules of conduct.
  • Reports behavior issues and other concerns to the supervisor.
  • Performs daily vehicle inspections, and assures the bus is operating correctly.
  • Conducts a complete post-trip interior inspection of the school bus for remaining students before leaving the bus.
  • Inspects vehicles, and identifies vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
  • Cleans the bus interior, sweeps the floors, and cleans windows and seats.
  • Completes all required written reports on a daily basis.

Knowledge of

  • Safety rules and regulations, and safe driving techniques in all road conditions.
  • Local geographical area, road systems, and City and state traffic regulations.
  • First aid and CPR.
  • Capabilities, operational characteristics, adjustment, and preventive maintenance of the type of vehicles to which assigned.

Skill in

  • Operating vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, District policies and procedures, and state and local regulations.
  • Following and maintaining safety standards.
  • Adjusting and performing preventive maintenance on the vehicles to which assigned.
  • Recognizing potentially hazardous situations on the road and taking appropriate action.
  • Reading and understanding a variety of plans and maps.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.

Education, Training, and Experience

A high School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota State Commercial Driver's License with school bus/passenger endorsement.
